Prados De Armijo: Patron Saint’s Day Celebrations and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Prados De Armijo
Virgen Milagrosa and Patron Saint’s Day Celebrations
The Capilla de la Milagrosa is located in the Prados de Armijo district. Celebrations in honor of the Virgen Milagrosa have been held since 1941. The main patron saint’s day celebration takes place on the weekend closest to May 23. So the date is not necessarily May 23 itself; check the program for the relevant year when planning your trip. During the festivities, the evenings featuring dancing alternate annually between La Solana and La Umbría. In the procession, the Virgin is carried to La Umbría and then back to her church in La Solana.
Church and Historical Traces
A description from 2017 mentions a small 90 × 70-centimeter altarpiece with an image of the Nazareno at the Iglesia de la Virgen Milagrosa in Prados de Armijo. It also highlights carved angel heads on the sides and an image of Christ in the center. If you would like to see this interior decoration, check locally whether the altarpiece is currently on display.
Remains of various civilizations, including Muslim remains, have been found around Prados de Armijo. Alongside the religious tradition, these provide further historical points of interest in the area.
Routes by Landscape and Course
PR-BS-28 is a circular hiking route that starts in the square in front of the church in Prados de Armijo (La Solana). It first follows a path parallel to the Arroyo del Ojanco for 1.5 kilometers, then meets the JA-9115.
PR-BS-30 is also a circular hiking route and passes through Prados de la Solana. It climbs through olive groves to the Barranco de Cuadros and reaches an elevation of 1,110 meters. PR-BS-31 passes the Arroyo del Ojanco and climbs along the Barranco de Cuadros track to Cerro del Tomizo. It follows the JA-9115 toward Prados de Armijo and ends in Prados de la Umbría. The two routes have different reference points: PR-BS-30 is marked by olive groves and its stated elevation, while PR-BS-31 is marked by the stream, track, and Cerro.
PR-BS-32 is a circular hiking route with an endpoint in Prados de la Umbría. It uses the JV-7007, passes over Cerro de la Atalayuela, and continues along the track at the Cerezuelo. The route descriptions date from 2017; check local trail conditions before setting out.
The Sendero Olivo Milenario Fuentebuena Arroyo del Ojanco is accessible on horseback, on foot, and by bicycle. At the Prados de Armijo junction, the path turns off; the Olivo de la Fuentebuena is about 50 meters from the road. These details provide additional reference points for the route and its uses, without equating it with the circular hiking trails.
