Nuevo Portil: Golf, Lagoon and Coastal Trails
Accommodation in Nuevo Portil
To decide whether Nuevo Portil is right for your stay, it helps to understand the specific differences between golf, walking trails and water activities. If you are looking for a hotel, these highlights can help you decide what interests you during your trip: the golf course, Laguna del Portil or the coast. Sailing courses and possible boat trips are also activities you may wish to consider.
Golf and sailing as different highlights
Nuevo Portil Golf covers 46 hectares, measures 6,040 metres and was designed by Alfonso Vidaor. Practice facilities include a practice area, a driving range, Pitch & Putt and a practice bunker. Club and buggy hire, as well as a golf school, are also available. This means a range of training options are available in addition to the course itself. If golf is a deciding factor in your trip, you can take into account this combination of course dimensions, practice areas and lessons. Check the availability of the facilities and services before your trip.
As a water-based alternative, the Asociación Náutica Deportiva Nuevo Portil organises sailing courses through its respective schools. Check the current availability of courses before you arrive. The two highlights are clearly different: on one side are the golf course and practice facilities, and on the other are courses related to sailing.
Lagoon, pine forest and trails
Laguna del Portil offers a nature-focused experience. This freshwater lagoon holds water year-round, covers 11 hectares and is surrounded by mixed woodlands of coastal pines and juniper. A large population of waterbirds is also part of its natural environment. A trail beside the lagoon passes through a typical coastal ecosystem characterised by pines and Mediterranean undergrowth. The water, trees and undergrowth stand out as distinct elements of the landscape.
The trail beside Laguna del Portil follows an almost circular route. It starts at a viewpoint on the HV-4112 coastal road and leads into the pine forest around the lagoon. Caño de la Culata offers a different perspective on the trails: there, a wooden walkway crosses the dune front. The botanical trail describes twelve plant species. While the route and pine forest characterise the trail beside the lagoon, Caño de la Culata centres on the walkway across the dune front and the descriptions of the plants.
Coastal views and boat trips
Nuevo Portil has a five-kilometre-long coastline and is surrounded by pines and junipers. From Nuevo Portil, you can enjoy a view of the Río Piedras and Flecha del Rompido. Boat trips to the unspoilt beach at Flecha del Rompido are available from the nautical facilities. The view from Nuevo Portil and a boat trip to the beach are two different ways to experience the coastal landscape. If you would like to plan a trip, check current availability beforehand.
Getting oriented locally
There are three adapted, freestanding viewpoints in the area of the trails described. There is also a children's playground in the surrounding area. Check the current condition of these facilities before your visit, as they may change. This will help you weigh up nature trails, golf, sailing courses and the other activities mentioned when planning, without treating these different highlights as the same.
