In the Municipio Silva, the mangroves and cays of Parque Nacional Morrocoy meet the local history of Tucacas. If you are planning a hotel stay in Silva, you can first consider whether nature experiences in the park or the history and culture of Tucacas better match your travel interests.

Morrocoy: Mangroves, Cays, and Nature

In the Municipio Silva, Parque Nacional Morrocoy includes mangroves stretching from Punta Tucacas and Cayo Punta Brava. The park also includes Cayo Guanche, Cayo Paicla, Cayo Ánimas, and Cayo Boca Seca. The park's cays are suitable for relaxing, diving, and observing nature.

These options offer different experiences: you can focus on taking a break, be interested in diving, or turn your attention to nature. The mangroves and cays each give the park a distinct landscape, and the activities are not interchangeable.

Tucacas: History and Culture

An archaeological site in the area of the Tucacas cemetery is located next to the Valencia–Coro road. The 2004–2009 Cultural Heritage Census lists it as public cultural property and names the Alcaldía del municipio Silva as the responsible authority.

The Cementerio municipal de Tucacas is the successor to an earlier cemetery in the town. It dates from the 1890s, following the establishment of the Bolívar Railway. The Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural catalog for 2004–2007 lists the cemetery as cultural heritage of the Municipio Silva. The information records two distinct historical connections: the cemetery's development and its later designation as cultural heritage.

The Ateneo de Tucacas also connects architectural history with local memory. The building was constructed in 1922 in the Dutch architectural style and houses a collection of objects relating to the town's recent history. Danzas Tucacas is based at the Ateneo; in 2010, the group was declared Patrimonio Artístico of Falcón state.

A 2017 article described a procession in honor of the Virgin as an annual tradition. It gave the start time as 4 p.m. on September 24 at Templo Virgen de Las Mercedes. If you would like to include this tradition in your travel plans, check in advance whether the procession is currently taking place.

Falcón in a Broader Context

In the broader travel region of Falcón, Cueva del Indio is located on Cerro Chichiriviche within Parque Nacional Morrocoy. It can be reached via the mangrove channels. Cueva del Indio and Santuario de la Virgen are accessible only by boat; the boats pull up directly alongside the rocks. Check local conditions before setting out.

Parque Nacional Médanos de Coro features a different landscape. The “Dunas de Arena” are its main attraction, and visitors can go sandboarding there. Los Médanos de Coro extend 30 kilometers in length and 5 kilometers in width across the municipalities of Miranda, Colina, Falcón, and Carirubana. Thus, in the broader travel region of Falcón, the mangrove and cays landscape of Morrocoy and the dunes of Médanos de Coro offer different nature experiences.
