Discover Moyobamba Province
Accommodation in Moyobamba Province
Moyobamba Province brings together specific nature and culture themes to help you plan your trip: a canoe ride through a wetland, thermal waters, a trail to a summit, and a museum with regional collections. This makes it easy to match different travel interests with the destinations mentioned.
Nature between the river, wetland, and thermal waters
At the Reserva EcolĂłgica Tingana, visitors can canoe through the wetland on the RĂo Avisado. This makes a trip on the water the main activity—different from climbing Morro de Calzada or visiting a museum.
Aguas Termales San Mateo is a thermal bath at the foot of Cerro San Mateo, at an altitude of 960 meters in the Selva Alta ecosystem. The distance from Moyobamba’s main square is 5.1 kilometers; traveling by private car on a paved road takes 15 minutes. The thermal bath complex in the San MartĂn destination includes seven pools, with temperatures ranging approximately from 32 °C to 40 °C. Operating hours and services may change; check them before your visit.
Hiking and views at Morro de Calzada
The climb up Morro de Calzada begins at the Centro de InterpretaciĂłn and follows a 1.5-kilometer zigzag trail with partly rocky terrain to the viewpoint at the summit. Unlike the canoe ride in Tingana, this is a trail with a summit as its destination. Morro de Calzada is a natural viewpoint in the San MartĂn destination, offering a 360-degree panoramic view and limestone formations in the RĂo Mayo valley. Hikes at Morro can be an opportunity to observe local flora and fauna.
Museum and cultural heritage
The Museo Departamental San MartĂn has nine exhibition rooms with archaeological, ethnographic, and historical exhibits. These represent the earliest evidence of the people who inhabited the Amazon region, particularly the San MartĂn region. The collection of the Museo Departamental San MartĂn in the San MartĂn destination also includes La Gran Saposoa, El Gran PajatĂ©n, and the funerary urns of Chazuta, as well as prehistoric animal fossils and collections of ceramics, stone objects, textiles, and wood. The museum’s exhibits therefore include both archaeological and historical evidence and a range of materials and cultural heritage.
Casa del Turista Onercocha is located in the community of ParaĂso del Alto Mayo. It provides reception, guidance, and other services before and after a visit to Laguna Onercocha. Its role thus differs from that of a natural attraction or a collection: the focus here is on guidance and services related to visiting the lagoon.
