In the Province of Lambayeque, archaeological sites, architecture and regional offerings can each provide a different focus for your trip. TĂșcume and Chotuna-Chornancap offer specific points of reference when planning visits. If you are looking for hotels, you can first consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Archaeological sites in TĂșcume and Chotuna-Chornancap

The TĂșcume Archaeological Complex is also known as the Pyramids of TĂșcume, Cerro La Raya and Cerro Purgatorio. These names refer to the same complex, not to four separate stops. When comparing information about TĂșcume, it helps to consider these alternative names together.

For the Chotuna-Chornancap Complex, two area figures should be distinguished: the Chotuna complex covers approximately 95 hectares, while the Chornancap area covers approximately 17 hectares. Both figures are estimates and refer to areas with different names. They therefore provide a comparison of size, not two figures for the same area.

At the Chotuna-Chornancap Archaeological Complex, visitors can see the excavated areas of Sala de los DepĂłsitos and Templo de los Frisos. Check the current visitor conditions before your visit. This allows you to plan around these specific areas without confusing the area figures with the extent of a visit.

Architecture and museum themes

The Iglesia San Pedro de TĂșcume features architectural elements of the Baroque, Churrigueresque and Neoclassical styles. These three named styles offer a specific perspective on the church’s architecture: as you look around, you can notice how different influences come together in one building.

A 2021 museum description mentions three independent exhibition rooms at Museo TĂșcume. Its interactive, highly visual museography presents the relationship between culture and nature, as well as the history of TĂșcume from pre-Hispanic times to the present. This offers a different way to explore TĂșcume than viewing the archaeological complexes themselves: the focus here is on the exhibition and the connection between cultural and natural history.

In the wider Lambayeque destination, Museo de Sitio Chotuna-Chornancap displays a reconstruction of Naylamp’s arrival, landing, death and burial. The museum welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday, including public holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. As opening hours may change, check the schedule before your visit.

Regional cuisine and crafts

A 2023 travel guide describes how the TĂșcume community offers regional dishes for tasting in connection with tours of the huacas. Since such participatory offerings may change, check in advance whether they are currently available.

In the wider Lambayeque destination, visitors can buy and sample manjar at Parque Artesanal de MonsefĂș, also referred to as Picarones or Buñuelos. The park currently has 33 registered craft stalls. This gives you two specific points of reference for a visit: sampling the named product and seeing the registered stalls.

More perspectives in the wider Lambayeque destination

The conventional route in Santuario HistĂłrico Bosque de PĂłmac includes hikes and opportunities to observe flora and fauna. Travel from Chiclayo to Laquipampa is listed as taking approximately two and a half hours by road. There, walking trails lead to Lajas in 30 minutes, El Reloj in one hour and Quebrada Shambo in two hours. Walking times may vary depending on trail conditions. The travel time from Chiclayo and the walking times in Laquipampa concern different parts of the planning process; compare them separately.

Another travel-time comparison from Chiclayo: Santuario Histórico Bosque de Pómac is 45 minutes away by road; this travel time may also vary depending on road conditions. Museo Nacional de Sicán displays artifacts found during excavations in Batán Grande and presents them as they were used or made. Muelle de Pimentel is an iconic pier made of iron and wood and a representative symbol of the region’s maritime activity. These stops broaden the perspective on Lambayeque to include nature observation, archaeological finds and maritime heritage.

You can tailor your search to the themes that matter for your stay.
