San Ramón offers two distinct perspectives for planning your trip: the city center, with Plaza Mayor and the cathedral, and nearby destinations in the surrounding landscape. If you are looking for a hotel in San Ramón, these themes can help you decide which sights you would like to focus on during your trip.

Plaza Mayor and religious architecture

Plaza Mayor de San Ramón is in the city center; its construction dates back to the early 20th century. Nine planted beds contain ornamental plants. In the center is a pool measuring about 50 m² and 1 m deep, with aquatic plants, fish and turtles; a monumental fish sculpture stands in it.

The Catedral de San Ramón is the city’s main Catholic church and the seat of the Apostolic Vicariate of San Ramón. It is built mainly of adobe and wood. Its architecture includes a gabled roof and a white-painted facade with earth-colored details; the bell tower is visible from the main square.

A pagoda-style pavilion in Plaza Mayor honors San Ramón’s Chinese community. The community has been represented by the “Wha Yen Con Zie” society since 1884. The square thus brings together different cultural influences, while the cathedral also plays a religious and institutional role in the city.

Masses, patron-saint celebrations and other religious activities take place in the cathedral, with local residents and visitors in attendance. If you plan to attend a Mass or patron-saint celebration, check the dates and access arrangements in advance.

Catarata El Tirol: Cascades and trail

Catarata El Tirol is located near San Ramón. The waterfall consists of three cascades with a total height of 35 m and forms a shallow pool about 1 m deep. The route there follows a footpath through vegetation that includes palms, orchids, bromeliads and ferns. The waterfall views are thus combined with a trail through a variety of plant species.

To reach Catarata El Tirol, travel 5 km on a paved road from Plaza Mayor de San Ramón to the Playa Hermosa sector, then continue 2 km on an unpaved road to the waterfall. Another route leads from Plaza San Ramón to Jardín Etnobotánico Semilla Bendita: 1.6 km on a paved road to Puente Huacará, followed by 3.5 km on an unpaved road to the garden. Both routes include changes in road surface, but have different starting and intermediate points. Road conditions can change, so check them in advance when planning your trip.

Panoramic views and historical perspectives

From the annex of Chunchuyacu, Mirador Montañas De Bosques Encantados offers wide views over the San Ramón Valley and the Chanchamayo Selva Alta mountain range. The two landscape destinations offer different highlights: at Catarata, the cascades and trail vegetation take center stage, while the Mirador offers panoramic views across the valley and mountain range.

The former Casa Hacienda El Naranjal, located near San Ramón, offers another historical perspective. During the price boom of the 1940s, it produced up to 10,000 quintales of coffee per year. This connection to economic history adds the story of earlier coffee production to the impressions of the city center.
