Villavicencio offers three routes with different courses and lengths, walking paths in Parque Los Fundadores, and the Nuestra Señora del Carmen church. To plan your visit, you can first choose what you want to focus on: a particular route, a walk in the park, or a religious building. The Cristo Rey, La Escalinata, and Vereda del Carmen routes differ in their waypoints and distances.

Compare routes by course and length

The Cristo Rey route begins in the city center at Parque Infantil. Stone steps lead to the Monumento a Cristo Rey, where you can enjoy a view of the city. The loop then passes the Concha Acústica Arnulfo Briceño and follows a paved road back to the center. It is 1,255 meters long. Its course thus connects a starting point and return in the center with the monument and the city view.

La Escalinata begins in Barrio El Triunfo on Carrera 42. The route crosses the bridge over Caño Parrado, passes through La Pradera, and goes by Cueva del Cachicamo. It is 1,740 meters long. Its sequence of named points gives you a different way to navigate than the Cristo Rey loop: here, you can follow the route by its barrio, bridge, La Pradera, and cave.

At 9,533 meters, Vereda del Carmen is the longest of the three routes. It begins at the upper end of the road by the Villacentro shopping center, passes under the road to Bogotá, and climbs to the school in Vereda del Carmen. It then continues to Vereda Samaria and descends to Buenavista. Its waypoints form a longer sequence than those on the other two routes and extend as far as Buenavista.

By distance, the routes fall into a clear order: Cristo Rey is the shortest, La Escalinata is in between, and Vereda del Carmen is the longest. If distance is important to your choice, you can compare the three routes directly. The course helps with a second decision: a loop returning to the center, several named intermediate points, or a sequence of points extending to Buenavista.

Walking paths and religious significance

Parque Los Fundadores has walking paths for exercise or leisurely strolls. The park offers a different option from the three routes: you can choose between using the paths for exercise and taking a leisurely stroll, rather than selecting a single route by its distance. The park also has a fountain and more than 200 parking spaces.

If you need parking during your visit, check availability in advance; it may change. The number of parking spaces is a useful practical guide, but does not guarantee that a space will be available when you arrive.

Compared with the 76 religious institutions in the Archdiocese, Nuestra Señora del Carmen is considered the most representative religious building in Villavicencio and the Department of Meta. This gives the church a distinct religious focus alongside the routes and walking paths. If religious sites are among your interests, you can take this distinction into account when choosing what to focus on during your stay.

These places appeal to different interests: the routes are about course and distance, Parque Los Fundadores about the kind of walk, and Nuestra Señora del Carmen about religious significance. This way, you can decide which focus matters most to your plans before your stay.
