The Province of Valparaíso brings together very different settings: the historic quarter of the port city of Valparaíso, nature reserves, coastal landscapes and islands. The historic quarter is an exceptional example of industrial heritage associated with international maritime trade in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Alongside this maritime heritage, museums, gardens and hiking trails shape the travel experience.

Cultural Sites in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar

Casa Museo La Sebastiana is located on Cerro Florida in Valparaíso. Museo Palacio Rioja in Viña del Mar offers a different cultural note: its furnishings include finely crafted pieces from Spain and France, associated with the Baroque, Rococo and Chesterfield styles. Palacio Vergara is home to the Museo de Bellas Artes. The province thus offers a range of cultural points of interest—from a house on the hill to furniture with varied art-historical classifications and a fine arts museum.

Quinta Vergara also combines culture and recreation. It offers a free cultural and recreational experience; check current operating details before visiting. Every February, the amphitheater at Quinta Vergara is the venue for the Festival Internacional de la Canción. The park and the festival thus represent two different sides of the place: a cultural and recreational visit, and an annual event.

Nature, Landscapes and Trails

Reserva Nacional Lago Peñuelas has been part of the La Campana-Peñuelas Biosphere Reserve since February 15, 1985. It is an important concentration area for birds and is home to 120 bird species. The protected area also has a family cycling route with three loops of varying lengths and difficulty levels. Check current route information before setting out.

Jardín Botánico Nacional de Viña del Mar has a walking path within the garden, as well as a trekking trail with access to Lote C. In Parque Nacional Archipiélago Juan Fernández, Sendero Mirador de Selkirk covers 3.5 kilometers; the total walking time is two to three hours. The archipelago consists of three islands: Robinson Crusoe, Santa Clara and Alejandro Selkirk. Check current trail conditions before your trip.

The dune systems of Punta de Concón showcase another type of landscape. They are scenic resources and evidence of the development of central Chile's coastal landscape. The province's nature experiences are therefore quite varied: from birdlife and cycling routes at Lago Peñuelas to garden paths and an island hike, as well as the coastal landscape near Concón.

Getting Around the Casablanca Valley

Roads offer a useful way to get around the Casablanca Valley: Ruta 68 connects the main access points to the valley, while F-90 leads to smaller vineyards. Road conditions may change; check them before setting out.

The Wider Destination: Valparaíso

In the broader destination of Valparaíso, the Región de Valparaíso, the landscape ranges from an extensive coastline and fertile inland valleys to an imposing mountain range. Literature, traditions and cultural heritage also shape what the region offers visitors. Maitencillo is also part of this wider travel area: at Aguas Blancas and El Abanico beaches, activities include surfing, kitesurfing and paragliding. These regional perspectives complement the specific places in the province without reducing them to a single landscape or leisure profile.
