Futrono combines a visit to town with views of Lago Ranco, lakeside trails and regional cultural offerings. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between destinations in Futrono itself and excursions in the surrounding area.

Getting Your Bearings and Views in Futrono

Futrono’s new visitor center was inaugurated on October 28, 2025. It has an information area and is fully accessible on the ground floor. One tourist information center is located on Calle Los Carreras in Futrono; another is in the Llifén waterfront area. Check locally for their current locations and opening status.

Playa Galdámez is on Futrono’s waterfront promenade, just a few minutes’ walk from the main square and shops. The Mirador de Futrono is on the Ruta de los Lagos and offers views of the lake and its islands. These provide two different perspectives on the town: the waterfront promenade near the main square and the view from the lookout. Access conditions at the Mirador may change seasonally; check before your visit.

Walking and Cycling Trails

You can explore Futrono on foot or by bicycle. Accessible trails run along the lakeshore north and south of town, ranging from 3 to 15 kilometers in length. Check trail conditions and wayfinding along the routes before setting out.

Another option is the 20-kilometer paved lakeside route between Futrono and Llifén, which is suitable for cycling. Compared with the 3-to-15-kilometer trails, this route is longer and specifically intended for cycling. Check the surface conditions and traffic before setting out.

Excursions in the Surrounding Area

Parque Pico Toribio is near Futrono, in the Quimán area. Access is via the road between Futrono and Llifén. Two kilometers from the turnoff, there is a checkpoint for payment and visitor registration. Find out about the relevant procedures before setting out.

Parque Futangue is a private nature reserve of 130 square kilometers near Futrono. It is 45 kilometers away, on the southeastern edge of Lago Ranco. Activities offered there include mountain biking and fly fishing. Check with the reserve about activities and services before your visit.

Further afield in the region, a scenic route runs around the entire Lago Ranco and connects it with Isla Huapi. There, the Mapuche-Huilliche community shares its worldview and living traditions. The route and a visit to the island therefore offer a different regional focus from the trails and viewpoints right by Futrono.

Culture and Regional Cuisine

Centro Cultural Flora Zaffaroni in Futrono promotes local identity through rural and Mapuche traditions. Its workshops include ñocha weaving, guitar, screen printing, digital photography, painting, arts and crafts, and traditional crafts; the center also hosts exhibitions and musical performances. As the program may vary, check in advance for current activities.

In the wider Futrono area, the seasonal Circuito de Ferias Costumbristas offers traditional Chilean dishes made with local products and rooted in rural culture. Check the Circuito’s current dates. One specific stop is the Feria de Maihue: it is 55 kilometers from the municipality of Futrono, on the Ruta T-559 at its junction with the Ruta T-717. Offerings include Mapuche cuisine, vegetables and culturally rooted processed products. Check seasonal opening and visitor services in advance.
