Trindade combines coastal scenery, trails and marine attractions in Serra da Bocaina National Park, with access via Paraty. The specific location and route details help you put these interests into context.

Beaches and marine attractions

Trindade is the only section of Serra da Bocaina National Park with marine attractions. Praia do Meio consists of two small coves into which a small river flows. The coves and the river mouth give this stretch of beach a distinctive character within the coastal landscape. Praia do Caixa d’Aço is suitable for surfing at certain times of the year. If surfing is important for your trip, plan around the right season and check whether your travel dates fit.

Trails to Piscina Natural

Piscina Natural is surrounded by rocks and has shallow, clear water. You have two options for getting there: a hiking trail leads there from Praia do Caixa d’Aço, while Piscina Natural can be reached by boat from Praia do Meio. The options therefore differ in their starting points and means of transport. In addition, a 400-meter-long hiking trail runs through Serra da Bocaina National Park from Praia do Meio to Praia do Caixa d’Aço. For planning purposes, it is helpful to distinguish this trail from the routes to the natural pool: the 400 meters refer to the path between the beaches; the stated ways to reach the natural pool are the trail from Praia do Caixa d’Aço or the boat ride from Praia do Meio.

Getting there via Paraty

The road route to Trindade from Paraty follows the BR 101 (Rio-Santos) toward Ubatuba as far as the PatrimĂ´nio turnoff. This turnoff is 16 km from Paraty; from there, an approximately 6 km paved road leads to the town of Trindade. These figures refer to two consecutive sections: first, Paraty to the turnoff, then the road from PatrimĂ´nio to Trindade. This helps you understand the route without adding the six-kilometer final section to the total journey from Paraty. A regular bus service also runs between Paraty and Trindade. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel day before departure.

Folia de Reis and travel dates

The calendar may also play a role in your trip. The community of Trindade traditionally celebrates Folia de Reis every year on December 26 and January 6. The birth of Christ is announced from house to house with music. The season matters for surfing at Praia do Caixa d’Aço, while Folia de Reis takes place on two specific calendar dates. If you are planning to travel specifically for the tradition, check in advance whether a celebration will take place in your travel year.
