Silva Jardim – Cultural History and Nature
Accommodation in Silva Jardim
Silva Jardim offers several distinct travel interests: folk culture, public art, and railway history shape the local perspective; water and nature activities are part of the municipality, while other protected areas and cultural sites belong to the wider Silva Jardim destination. When planning your trip, you can choose between local history and themes across the wider destination.
Folk Culture, Art, and Railway History
The Associação Folclórica Mineiro Pau was founded in 1952, providing a specific point of reference for Silva Jardim’s cultural history. Another is the Painel de Arte Pública de Silva Jardim, created as part of the I Festival de Arte Pública, organized by Cerâmica Julia Botafogo on the theme “Silva Jardim.” The public art is therefore connected to the city’s name through both the festival and its theme.
The Centro Cultural Capivari reopened as a cultural center in June 2012, retaining the building’s architectural features. In the wider Silva Jardim destination, it is housed in a former prison dating from 1841 and is now dedicated to cultural exhibitions. The reopening and the building’s former use give the site different historical connections.
Railway history also has a specific site: the Estação de Trem de Capivari was inaugurated in 1886. Historically, warehouses, a hotel, and a building that served as a salt depot for a long time shaped the area around the station. These uses place the area in its historical context; they do not indicate any current transport or accommodation services.
Nature and Activities in the Municipality
In the municipality of Silva Jardim, Cachoeira das Andorinhas has a 19-meter drop, where rappelling is possible. Lagoa de Juturnaíba lies between Silva Jardim and Araruama, and 70 percent of the reservoir belongs to Silva Jardim. It offers numerous opportunities for water and nautical sports and is also an important fishing area.
The activities described are quite different: at Cachoeira das Andorinhas, rappelling down the waterfall is the main attraction, while Lagoa de Juturnaíba is associated with water sports and fishing. If you are planning your trip around particular interests, you can weigh up these different nature and activity options.

In connection with the golden lion tamarin’s habitat and the conservation of the Atlantic Forest, Parque Ecológico Mico-Leão-Dourado offers trails, viewpoints, and opportunities for nature observation. The park’s permanent exhibition uses interactive panels and videos to present topics related to the conservation of the golden lion tamarin and the Atlantic Forest. The “Na Trilha do Mico” activity gives visitors the opportunity to observe golden lion tamarins in the wild and learn about their behavior alongside AMLD researchers. RPPN Parque do Mico encompasses 151 hectares of Atlantic Forest in the municipality of Silva Jardim.
