Sapucaia: Cultural Sites, Festivals and Rural Tourism
Accommodation in Sapucaia
Sapucaia offers travel experiences focused on cultural history, religious festivals and rural tourism. Historic cultural sites and seasonal festivals provide different options to consider when planning your trip.
Cultural history in repurposed buildings
The century-old Cine GlĂłria building was renovated in 2008 and reopened as the Centro Cultural Maria das Graças dos Santos – Magrácia. Centro Cultural Magrácia is located at Rua MaurĂcio de Abreu 91 in central Sapucaia. It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; check the opening hours again before you travel.
The old Sapucaia railway station was also renovated and converted into a center for art, culture and a library. The old railway stations in Sapucaia and Anta were converted into centers for art, culture and libraries. Alongside the station's repurposing, heritage protection is another aspect of the cultural story: Sapucaia's Prefeitura and Câmara Municipal were protected because of their architectural, historical and cultural significance. They were formally listed in 1990. Historic buildings, their cultural use and their preservation thus stand alongside one another as distinct aspects of the city's history.
Religious festivals and theater
Religious festivals in Sapucaia take place in June and July. The Festa de Santo Antônio is particularly prominent; Santo Antônio is the city's patron saint. For planning purposes, this is a different point of reference from Centro Cultural Magrácia's opening hours: for the festival, the exact date matters; for the cultural center, it is the day of the week and the time window.
Another cultural example is the XXV Festival de Teatro de Sapucaia (FETAS), which took place in Sapucaia in 2025. At that edition, Escola Nossa Senhora Aparecida presented the play “O Saltimbancos,” directed and adapted by theater teacher Lucas Steinert. These details refer to the 2025 edition. For travel plans at another time, look for an event date that has been confirmed for that period.
Rural tourism in Sapucaia and its municipality
Sapucaia is promoted as a destination for rural tourism. In the municipality, in the district of Nossa Senhora de Aparecida, is the Centro HĂpico de Sapucaia. A municipal tourism article from 2021 highlighted it as a reference point for equestrian shows throughout Latin America.
A municipal tourism article from 2021 also described Balneário 3 Quedas in the municipality as having hiking trails, waterfalls, a swimming pool and a zip line. Check current visitor access before traveling there. When planning, it helps to distinguish these destinations in the municipality from the cultural sites with an explicitly stated address in central Sapucaia. This way, you can choose the focus of your trip—city history, festival season or rural tourism—to suit your reason for traveling.
