Discover Aranjuez
Accommodation in Aranjuez
You can explore Aranjuez for your trip planning through three themes: its designated natural and landscape heritage, birdwatching spots, and the former uses of Paseo de Aranjuez. When choosing a hotel, it may help to distinguish these local highlights from other destinations within the wider La Paz destination and plan your trip around your interests.
Nature and Birdwatching in Aranjuez
Parque de Aranjuez is designated as natural and landscape heritage of the municipality of La Paz, for its conservation and protection. This makes the protection of nature and the landscape a specific local focus. If this matters to you when choosing a destination or hotel, the park offers a suitable point of reference.
The Aranjuez, Amor de Dios, and Camino del Águila areas in the city of La Paz are considered interesting birdwatching spots. This adds a specific wildlife-watching theme to the landscape setting. A particular sighting is not guaranteed, so plan birdwatching as a possible activity, not a definite outcome.
Paseo de Aranjuez: Former Uses
In a 2023 report, the municipality described how people used to park, jog, walk, and ride bicycles with children at Paseo de Aranjuez. At the time of the report, these activities were no longer possible there. If you plan to visit the Paseo, check the current conditions beforehand.
The Wider La Paz Destination
Within the wider La Paz destination, Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Cotapata is suited to environmental education and tourism because of its ecological, scenic, and archaeological features. By road, the park can be reached via the La Paz–Coroico road or through the Río Huarinilla valley; a private vehicle is recommended for the journey. The pre-Columbian El Choro route can be used as a walking trail to access the park. As trail conditions and access logistics can change, check them before planning a hike.
You can travel by bus to Coroico or La Cumbre; from there, the trekking route continues to the settlement of El Chairo. This is a distinct combination of arrival point and onward route within the La Paz context. Another route description concerns the Camino Chairo–Socosani: as a continuation of Puente Inca en Chairo, it runs along the lower slope of Cerro Nogalani to the ruins of Socosani. Along the way, you can see old agricultural terraces, retaining walls, and paved paths.
Tiwanaku: Ancient City and Modern Settlement
Tiwanaku is also part of the wider La Paz destination. It is located in the Altiplano near the southern shore of Lake Titicaca, at an altitude of 3,850 m, in Ingavi Province in the Department of La Paz. The ancient city was built mostly of adobe; most of it is now covered by the modern settlement. Both the ancient city and the present-day built environment are therefore essential to understanding Tiwanaku.
