El Rincón: Nature and Hiking
Accommodation in El Rincón
El Rincón offers natural areas, hikes, and a cultural touch. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first consider which of these places will shape your itinerary: time by the water, outdoor activities, a hike, or art. The sites and trails offer different points of interest for planning your trip.
Water and a Stay at the Balneario
The Balneario del Rincón has a pool fed by the waters of Arroyo Juan Pérez. Beneath the area’s lush tree canopy, there are barbecue grills, tables, and benches. This makes it a place where you can enjoy the water and a shaded area to relax. Unlike the hikes in the Florofaunística Reserve, the pool and facilities here are the main attractions for a break.
Nature Activities and Hiking Trails
The Florofaunística Reserve is located on Arroyo El Molino, whose waters are considered cold and clear. Activities available in the reserve include ziplining, climbing, rappelling, hiking, photo safaris, and birdwatching. Ask about activities on site, and check their availability before your trip.
Parque Serrano runs from the Florofaunística Reserve to Mirador de la Vieja Calera and is rated moderately difficult. Check access conditions before setting out. Another hike leads from the reserve to Salto del Tabaquillo: it is about six kilometers long and takes approximately two hours. The two routes can be described using different details: for Parque Serrano, the moderate difficulty rating is the main point of reference; for Salto del Tabaquillo, it is the approximate distance and duration.
The Rincón del Este Reserve is located in the El Rincón area, a few kilometers from Villa de Merlo. It offers another point of reference for getting oriented in the area.
Art and Other Regional Destinations
Museo Kurteff adds a cultural dimension to the nature and hiking activities. It was founded by goldsmith Jorge Kurteff, a Bulgarian artist who used iron, metal, copper, and bronze to create sculptures. His choice of materials offers a concrete point of interest if you’d like to include art alongside scenery and outdoor activities in your travel plans.
The wider destination of Departamento Junín also offers distinctive nature and leisure destinations. Mogote Bayo Nature Reserve has two self-guided trails with panoramic views of Valle del Conlara and the Sierras de los Comechingones. The El Talar complex on Arroyo Los Molles has an eight-hectare park with native vegetation. Facilities include day-use areas, camping, sports courts, a swimming pool, and picnic areas. While Mogote Bayo focuses on trails and views, El Talar combines parkland with a range of leisure activities.
Cascada Anahí is also in Departamento Junín: it is 13 meters high and can be reached by hiking through the mountain forest. A walking ascent along Arroyo Los Molles leads to Quebrada del Aguilucho; along the way, there are natural pools with emerald-green water and native flora and fauna. Carpintería is known in Departamento Junín as the “Capital of Free Flight.” Paragliding launches take place from the Filo de los Comechingones. These regional destinations each have a different focus: a waterfall, a mountain forest hike, natural pools, or paragliding.
