Lake Aluminé borders most of Villa Pehuenia’s coastline and is a central landmark of the destination. When searching for hotels in Villa Pehuenia, you can consider whether activities on the lake, the landscape or regional culture will shape your stay.

On Lake Aluminé: water sports and fishing

On Lake Aluminé, you can go out in sailboats, motorboats, small boats, kayaks, canoes and pedal boats. Sport or recreational fishing is also an option: you can fish from a boat or from the shore. This offers a range of ways to plan a stay focused on the lake—from different types of boating to fishing on land or on the water.

The Muelle Turístico and Paseo Recreativo are on the north shore of Lake Aluminé. The Muelle Turístico has large parking areas, ramps for people with reduced mobility and public restrooms. The pier also has providers of nautical activities, water sports and water-based recreation, as well as travel agencies and adventure tourism operators. For getting your bearings around the lake, this place combines practical visitor facilities with several different types of services.

Beach, viewpoint and scenic route

Radal-Co is a well-known beach in Villa Pehuenia Moquehue; it can be reached on foot or by vehicle. For a different view of the landscape, Portal Villa Pehuenia viewpoint offers panoramic views of Lake Aluminé. From there, you can also see the lake’s main island corridor and Cerro Chañy. The beach and viewpoint thus offer different perspectives: Radal-Co is a beach, while the Portal looks out over the lake, islands and Cerro Chañy.

The Circuito Pehuenia is a 120-kilometre scenic route. It runs mainly along RP11 through a large part of the Villa Pehuenia-Moquehue tourist area and can begin in Villa Pehuenia or Moquehue. The route covers a broader landscape than a single beach or viewpoint; both towns are also named as possible starting points. If you want to get a sense of the region by following a scenic route, the Circuito Pehuenia is a specific point of reference.

Crafts and cultural connections

Paseo de los Artesanos is a modern building in the centre of Villa Pehuenia Moquehue. It is dedicated to preserving regional cultural identity and promoting the economic development of local craftspeople. The Paseo has ten sales spaces for regional products. It therefore combines a cultural purpose with a dedicated space for local crafts and products from the region.

A cultural encounter is also part of the experience described along the Cinco Lagunas circuit: residents of homes in the Mapuche community welcome visitors with their animals, crafts and local customs. Another local connection is Nuestra Señora del Pehuén, who was named the patron saint of Villa Pehuenia on 2 February 2008. The image depicts an Araucaria tree, Lake Aluminé and Batea Mahuida Volcano.

In the Aluminé Department

In the broader destination of the Aluminé Department, the Chañy Protected Natural Area preserves forests of Pehuén, Lenga and Ñire, as well as a diverse environment with animal species of conservation importance. Cultural values are also preserved there; they are connected with the Puel Community’s long-standing use of the area.
