León: Museum, Viewpoint and History
Accommodation in León
You can explore León on your trip through three distinct interests: the history of the Batalla de León, a specific edition of the Trail Día Grande de Jujuy, and the Mirador de León. If you’re looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you decide in advance which topics will shape your stay.
Museum and History of the Batalla de León
The “27 de Abril-Combate de León” Museum is located in the Sala histórica de León on Route 9 at kilometer 22.3. Its collection includes around 600 military objects, including clothing, maps, radios, weapons and artillery. The collection therefore ranges from clothing and navigation materials to communications equipment and military gear. The museum has also been declared of cultural interest.
The Batalla de León was fought on April 27, 1821, by 600 patriots from Jujuy under the command of Colonel José Ignacio Gorriti. The history of the battle and the museum objects offer different perspectives: one focuses on a dated event, the other on a collection of various types of military objects. This makes it possible to understand the historical significance of the place through both the memory of the battle and the museum’s collections.
Trail Routes and Commemorative Event
For the León edition of the Trail Día Grande de Jujuy, the Polideportivo de León served as the meeting and starting point. This edition included four marked routes of 5, 10, 21 and 35 kilometers. In the same order, the routes had positive elevation gains of 200, 480, 1,000 and 1,300 meters. The length and elevation gain can therefore be compared directly for each route; both values increased with distance.
At Desafío Kids in León, children accompanying the participants had a course with games, skill exercises and physical activities. A separate event was the commemoration of the 205th anniversary of the Batalla de León: on April 27, 2026, it included a traditional civil-military and gaucho-style parade in León.
Mirador de León: Views and Orientation
The Mirador de León is on RN 9, level with the bridge leading to Tiraxi. From there, you can see the Río Grande, RP 29, the towns of Lozano and León, and the area around Volcán. The two locations have different reference points for orientation: for the viewpoint, these are the road and the bridge to Tiraxi; for the museum, they are the Sala histórica and kilometer 22.3.
