Santa María de Trassierra: Trails, Water and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Santa María De Trassierra
The main points to consider are trail length, landscape and cultural significance. The differences below show which features you can compare in advance.
Circular Trails, Water and Forest Landscapes
A six-kilometre circular hiking trail runs around the Baños de Popea area. It is considered accessible and easy to walk, although it includes some uphill sections. It is also suitable for outdoor activities with the whole family. The route therefore gives you a practical point of reference if you are planning a circular trail with a specified distance and easy rating. Trail conditions can change, so check the current state of the route before setting out.
At Arroyo Bejarano, clear waterfalls and cascades alternate with calm pools. The Sendero Fluvial Arroyo Bejarano runs within the Reserva Natural Fluvial del Arroyo Bejarano; the protected area is in Santa María de Trassierra near Córdoba. It was designated in November 2015 and is notable for its ecological and scenic importance. The waterscape at Arroyo offers a different focus from the forest and pasture formations described for the PR-A 211.
Cerro del Pozo de la Nieve is a public park immediately beside Santa María de Trassierra. Its paths and trails total 2,800 metres, of which more than 1,700 metres are marked and signposted. The two figures answer different planning questions: the total length describes the trail network, while the marked section indicates the signposted stretch. Conditions on these paths can also change.
The route description for PR-A 211 Circular de Trassierra, dated September 2010, gives two possible starting points: beside the municipal civic centre or at the main square. From the town centre, the route initially follows the Vereda de la Canchuela. The description mentions Mediterranean scrubland, cork oak stands, dehesas dominated by holm oaks and a chestnut grove along the circular route. Technical details from September 2010 give a distance of 14.5 kilometres, a moderate difficulty level and a 100 percent cycling suitability rating. The route, signposting or maintenance may have changed since then. Compared with the six-kilometre circular trail near Baños de Popea, the PR-A 211 is considerably longer.
Church and Historical Heritage
The Iglesia de Santa María de Trassierra is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural and is listed in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage. Its foundation is dated to the 13th–14th century. The building has three naves, separated by pillars with pointed horseshoe arches. It also has a wooden-panelled ceiling and a pitched roof covered with tiles. The dating and architectural description give you specific points of reference if you would like to consider architectural history as well as nature trails during your stay.
Fuente del Elefante is located in Santa María de Trassierra and forms part of the historical heritage of the city of Córdoba. The source of the water at Fuente de La Marquesa is also specified: it comes from the Roman-origin Valdepuentes aqueduct. Alongside the church’s architecture, these offer two different connections to historical heritage and the landscape.
