San Isidro Partido: Nature, Routes and Culture
Accommodation in San Isidro Partido
In San Isidro Partido, you can explore nature along the RĂo de la Plata, routes served by the Tren de la Costa, and cultural sites in the city of San Isidro. When planning a stay, it is worth looking at these highlights separately: sometimes the opening hours of a nature reserve are the main consideration, sometimes a route on foot or by bike, and sometimes the history of a particular place.
Nature along the RĂo de la Plata
Parque Natural Municipal Ribera Norte covers 50 hectares and includes part of the RĂo de la Plata up to the Costanero Channel. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except when it rains or the river is in flood. Check the opening hours and current conditions before your visit.
The Corredor de la Ribera along the RĂo de la Plata is also worth noting if you are interested in water sports: it is home to windsurfing clubs. Alongside the nature reserve, activities related to the river are another highlight on the Partidoâs map.
Routes and train stations
Four Tren de la Costa stations are located in San Isidro Partido: Anchorena, Barrancas, San Isidro and Punta Chica. A cycling route from Anchorena station to San Isidro âRâ station also runs through the Partido. It offers an outdoor walk along the picturesque stations of the tourist train.
Another option is the âDe cara al rĂoâ route through the city of San Isidro. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle and combine it with the Tren de la Costa. The two routes offer different starting points for planning your day: one focuses on the tourist train stations, while the other combines exploring San Isidro on foot or by bike with a train journey.
Culture and history in San Isidro
Villa Ocampo is located in the city of San Isidro. It was donated to UNESCO in 1973 under the terms of a will. Visits are possible on Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; an online ticket is required. Guided tours take place on Fridays at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Places are limited. Check visiting and booking details before your trip.
Two quintas are also distinguished by national heritage designations: Quinta âLos Naranjosâ in San Isidro was declared a National Historic Site of Interest. Quinta Los OmbĂșes is a National Historic Monument and home to the âDr. Horacio Beccar Varelaâ Municipal Museum, Library and Historical Archive.
Paseo de los OmbĂșes is also known as Paseo de los Tres OmbĂșes; it was formerly called Barranca de los OmbĂșes. It was the first public scenic promenade overlooking the RĂo de la Plata in San Isidro. Museo del Juguete de San Isidro offers another cultural perspective: its mission includes collecting and preserving toys, as well as promoting and expanding experiences of play and toy use.
Planning markets and guided visits
An arts and crafts market is held at Plaza Mitre on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. As its schedule may change, check the details for the day of your visit. The traditional âVisita a 7 iglesiasâ tour was introduced by the municipality in 2024. With an expert guide, it visits churches in different localities of the Partido and presents their features and history. Check before your trip whether the tour is taking place on your chosen date.
There are several ways to plan your stay: Ribera Norte combines a nature reserve with a river landscape, the routes offer opportunities to explore on foot and by bike, and the sites in San Isidro reveal different aspects of local history and culture. Opening hours, the ticket requirement, limited capacity for guided tours and changing schedules are practical details to consider based on the visits you have in mind.
