Balneario Oriente: Beach, Dunes and River Landscape
Accommodation in Balneario Oriente
Balneario Oriente brings together several landscapes and places to visit: a viewpoint on a dune trail, El Vimar beach on the Río Quequén Salado, and the area at the mouth of Arroyo El Gaucho. When planning your trip, you can weigh up the options of a viewpoint, a river beach, water sports, and a landscape with different types of dunes and bodies of water. The town also has a cultural landmark: the Anfiteatro David Mathov.
Viewpoint and Nature Information Boards
The Mirador Panorámico is located on a dune trail. From there, you can look out over the sea and the river; information boards cover the region’s native flora and fauna. The viewpoint thus brings together two distinct perspectives: views of the sea and river, and information about the region’s plants and animals. If you are interested in native nature, the boards add these topics to the landscape views.
El Vimar: River Beach and Water Sports
El Vimar is a beach on the Río Quequén Salado where water sports are practiced. El Vimar can be reached via Roberto Brunad Street. Unlike at the Mirador, the focus here is on the river beach and its use for water sports. If water sports are part of your travel plans, El Vimar is the specific beach to keep in mind. The two places therefore have different focuses: the Mirador is known for its views and nature information boards, while El Vimar is a river beach for water sports.
Dunes at the Mouth of Arroyo El Gaucho
The area at the mouth of Arroyo El Gaucho offers a different landscape. The surroundings include a sea beach as well as active, fixed, and semi-fixed dunes. There are also low-lying areas at risk of flooding in places, grassland, and shallow bodies of water connected to the stream. This combination distinguishes the area from the named river beach: here, a sea beach and several types of dunes occur alongside grassland and shallow bodies of water. If you view a landscape not just in terms of its beach but also its landforms and bodies of water, this distinction is a useful focus for planning.
Culture at the Anfiteatro David Mathov
The Anfiteatro David Mathov is located on Uruguay Street between Córdoba and Corrientes and honors one of the pioneers after whom Balneario was named. Musical performances are associated with the amphitheater on weekends during the summer season. If a performance is a deciding factor in your travel plans, check the dates in advance.
Historical Sites in Coronel Dorrego
The wider destination of Coronel Dorrego offers further historical themes, distinct from the landscape sites in Balneario Oriente. The Museo Municipal Dr. Carlos Funes Derieul is located in the first administrative building, inaugurated in 1904, and presents the daily life, history, and culture of the Coronel Dorrego community. The Centro Cultural, formerly the Palacio Municipal, was inaugurated on January 1, 1904, as the first seat of the town hall. The building later served as an administrative building and the seat of the town council; following renovation, it became a cultural center on September 25, 2015. The museum presents the community’s daily life and history, while the history of the Centro Cultural reflects the building’s changing public uses.
