Claypole brings together the history of the Franciscans and the railway, a strong religious heritage, and distinctive cultural projects. If you’re looking for hotels in Claypole, these different themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: local history, pilgrimage tradition, or theatre and film.

Local History Between the Franciscans and the Railway

The lands that now make up Claypole passed to the Franciscan order in 1773. The Chacras de los Franciscanos supplied the monastery in Buenos Aires with fresh food. This links the area’s early history to agricultural supply. Claypole station opened on April 15, 1884; this date is considered the town’s founding date. That same year, the first train on the Haedo–La Plata section stopped at the small station, marking the beginning of the settlement.

Pilgrimage Tradition and Religious Heritage

Another defining feature of the area is its religious pilgrimage tradition. The Pequeño Cottolengo Argentino de Don Orione in Claypole includes a chapel that was consecrated on April 28, 1935. Cottolengo Don Orione is regarded as a charitable institution with a strong focus on social inclusion. On August 29, 2000, Don Orione’s heart arrived permanently at the Cottolengo de Claypole; afterward, the site became a center of prayer and pilgrimage.

Cultural Projects and Community Creativity

Ciudad Mural is an open-air museum. In 2016, the Municipalidad de Almirante Brown declared the project to be of municipal and educational interest and part of the cultural heritage through Decree 896/16. The history of the JAZZ EN CLAYPOLE festival offers another perspective on local cultural life: it was held in 2012 and 2013, with residents actively involved in its production. The festival and its accompanying documentary portray a shared cultural experience and the possibility of building a common cultural heritage.

Theatre, Film and Event Planning

The theatre at La Casa Espacio de Debate y Cultura opened in October 2011 and has 120 seats. Its program includes performances by national and international artists as well as local artists, along with events, photography and art exhibitions, film series, and film discussions. The eleventh edition of the Festival de Cine Independiente de Claypole (FECIC) is scheduled for October and November 2026. It is organized by the film group of Espacio de Debate & Cultura LA CASA. The competitions include documentary, fiction, and children’s animated short films; short films may be no longer than 20 minutes.
