Discover Kamensk-Uralsky
Accommodation in Kamensk-Uralsky
Kamensk-Uralsky can be explored through a range of themes: industrial and technological history sit alongside geological formations and wooded parks. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether you would prefer to focus on historical sites, museums or walks in green surroundings.
Industrial History and Engineering
The exhibition “Kamensk-Uralsky: City and Works in Three Dimensions (1682–1917)” covers the founding of the Kamenskaya Sloboda and a small monastic ironworks. Its development gave rise to the first metallurgical and military Kamensk cast-iron works; the exhibition also explores the works’ two-hundred-year history. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.
The I. Ya. Styazhkin Local History Museum adds another perspective with its artillery collection, which includes items from the Kamensk works dating from 1733 onward. The stone bridge over the Kamenka offers another example of engineering. Built in 1903, it is considered an example of engineering construction with high artistic value. At the Kamensk bell foundry, visitors can learn about the casting process from beginning to end and ring a bell at the end of their visit. Confirm that this visitor experience is available before your trip.
Geology in the Museum and Landscape
The V. P. Shevalyov Geological Museum consists of two halls with around 4,000 exhibits across five sections: rocks, minerals, mineral resources, paleontology and the geology of the Kamensk district. The approximate collection size may change. The oldest item in the paleontological collection is a slab bearing stromatolite imprints; it is stated to be 1.5 billion years old. The geological focus thus ranges from the rock and mineral collection to a particularly old item in the collection. If you plan to visit the museum, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.
Kamennye Vorota also has a geological connection: the 20-meter-high limestone cliff has a through-going rock arch and is designated a natural monument of regional significance. Nearby is the Revun rapids, a geological monument 22 kilometers from Kamensk, near the village of Beklenishchevo. This allows you to distinguish the natural sites within the city from a geological destination in the surrounding area.
Wooded Parks in the City Center
Razgulyaevsky Park is in the city center. In its coniferous forest, visitors can go for walks, work out on pull-up bars and cycle on routes of varying difficulty. Kosmos City Park is also in a forest in the city center; there, you can cycle, go for walks and feed squirrels. Both parks are associated with woodland, but the activities described offer different experiences. Rules on feeding squirrels may vary.
