In Khasansky District, historical traces and experiences in nature lead to a variety of places. The Krabbe Peninsula is home to evidence of Korean immigration and a medieval fortification wall; the Kravtsovskie Waterfalls form a cascade of five waterfalls. Protected areas, bays and ecological routes complete the picture. The range of travel experiences therefore extends from cultural history to distinctive natural attractions.

Cultural history on the Krabbe Peninsula

The Krabbe Peninsula is home to the remains of Korean fanza houses dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are connected with Korean immigration to Khasansky District. At the foot of the peninsula, a medieval fortification wall from the Jurchen Jin Empire crosses the isthmus. This means two distinct historical reference points can be found here: the history of fanza houses associated with immigration, and the medieval fortification. The difference in age highlights the contrast without conflating the two traces into a single chapter.

Protected areas and distinctive locations

Zemlya Leoparda National Park and the Far Eastern Marine Reserve are located in Khasansky District. Both are natural areas that attract visitors throughout the year. The uninhabited Krabbe Peninsula lies entirely within the buffer zone of protected areas, including the southern part of the marine reserve and the Novgorodskaya Bay natural monument.

The western section of the marine reserve lies in Kreiserok and Minonosok bays. It is reserved entirely for raising scallops to replenish the biota of Peter the Great Bay. Astafyeva Bay is also part of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve. These examples illustrate different forms of protection: Krabbe lies in a buffer zone, while Astafyeva Bay is part of the marine reserve.

Waterfalls and ecological routes

The Kravtsovskie Waterfalls form a cascade of five waterfalls. Dozens of ecological routes also run through Khasansky District. Nature experiences here range from the five-part waterfall cascade to dozens of ecological routes through the district.
