Five specially protected natural areas, ecological trails, and Priyutino Estate offer different ways to experience Vsevolozhskiy District. The trails showcase landscapes of forests, hills, and a river valley; Priyutino brings together a park, historic buildings, and museum collections. You can plan nature experiences and cultural visits as separate parts of your itinerary.

Natural Areas and Landscapes

Five specially protected natural areas have been established in Vsevolozhskiy District. The Kokorevskiy Nature Reserve lies on the shore of Petrokrepost Bay on Lake Ladoga, between the villages of Gannibalovka and Kokorevo.

The “Yelovye Kholmy” ecological trail passes through a landscape shaped by relatively undisturbed spruce and pine forests, sandy kame hills, and bog vegetation in depressions between the kames. The “Dolina reki Okhty” trail leads to kame hills, spruce forests with trees up to 160 years old, and the valley of the Ohta River. Both trails feature kame hills and spruce forest; Yelovye Kholmy also has pine forests and bog vegetation, while Dolina reki Okhty includes the river valley. The two descriptions emphasize different features: forest, hills, and bog on one trail, and the river valley as well on the other.

Trails by Length and Season

The “Yelovye Kholmy” ecological trail is 3.2 km long and designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and skiers. From December through March, it can be used for winter ski outings. The “Malinovaya Gora” ecological trail is shorter, at 2.3 km, and is also intended for pedestrians, cyclists, and skiers.

The “Ozero Shimpalatovskoye” walking trail is 2 km long and open year-round. It introduces visitors to the birds of the Kokorevskiy Nature Reserve. QR codes beside the bird descriptions link to videos or bird calls, connecting the information with visual or audio examples. The trail also has a photo spot, art installations, and a forest photography exhibition. Benches and pavilions provide places to rest.

At 4.5 km, “Dolina reki Okhty” is longer than the shorter trails; this route is also open year-round and runs through Toksovskiy Nature Park. Check local trail notices before your visit.

Priyutino Estate: Park, Museum, and History

The main manor house and park of “Priyutino” Estate have been cultural heritage sites of federal significance since 1960. The estate belonged to Alexey Nikolaevich Olenin; its visitors included A. S. Pushkin, I. A. Krylov, A. S. Griboyedov, M. I. Glinka, and K. P. Bryullov, among others. The park is laid out in the English style and is considered unique in Leningrad Oblast.

The museum complex includes the surviving main manor house and the guest wing, also known as the second manor house. Other buildings include the servants’ quarters, kitchen and laundry, utility building, dairy, wine cellar, and forge. The collection focuses on the life of the nobility in the 19th century and includes family mementos from the Olenin family, as well as paintings and graphic works by well-known artists. The buildings, park, and collection offer different ways to explore the estate’s history.

The estate hosts theatrical performances, classical music concerts, and interactive programs for children and adults. If you plan to attend, check event details before your trip.

Further Cultural Highlights and Hotel Planning

The “Doroga Zhizni” Museum is in the Rakhya Urban Settlement, at Ladoga Lake station, at 58 “Doroga Zhizni” Road. Alongside Priyutino Estate, it adds another cultural attraction to the nature trails. To plan your trip, first decide whether you want to focus on forest landscapes and trail routes, or on the park, the estate’s history, and museum collections.
