In Prikubanskiy District, archaeological remains near Druzhba and the Kuban Reservoir cater to different travel interests. Near Druzhba are a burial site, a group of burial mounds, and fortified settlements; at the reservoir, camping, swimming, and fishing championships are among the attractions. When choosing a hotel, it may help to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: historical sites or activities on the water.

Archaeological remains near Druzhba

At the southwestern edge of the village of Druzhba, on the left bank of the Kuban River, are an archaeological burial site dating from the 3rd–2nd century BC, the Druzhba group of burial mounds dating from the 6th–5th century BC, and two fortified settlements dating from the 3rd–2nd century BC. Of the fortifications, No. 1 refers to the northern site and No. 2 to the southern one.

The dates mark two different periods: the group of burial mounds is older than the burial site and the fortified settlements. These are also different types of archaeological sites, not different names for the same place. If you are planning a visit, check beforehand whether access is possible.

The dates and numbering help you distinguish between the individual sites: the years place the remains in different periods, while north and south distinguish the two fortified settlements. This can help you decide which to focus on when planning your trip: early fortifications, burial sites, or groups of burial mounds.

Activities at the Kuban Reservoir

The Kuban Reservoir, also known as the “Cherkess Sea,” is an artificial body of water in Prikubanskiy District, Karachay-Cherkessia. Visitors often camp at the reservoir. Swimming is also a recreational activity, although the water temperature is low. This makes the reservoir a different focus from the archaeological sites near Druzhba.

Fishing championships are regularly held at the Kuban Reservoir. One specific event was the Karachay-Cherkessia Championship in bottom fishing, held there in 2023. If a competition is important to your travel plans, check the current event schedule rather than assuming that the event held then will take place again on a particular date.

If you plan to swim, take the low water temperature into account and check the conditions locally. Camping, swimming, and fishing championships are different reasons to spend time by the water; by themselves, they do not indicate which activities will be available during your trip.

A cultural site in Kavkazskiy

There is a mosque in the settlement of Kavkazskiy. It is another religious point of interest in Prikubanskiy District. If you are considering a visit, check beforehand whether entry is possible. This keeps this aspect of trip planning distinct from the archaeological sites near Druzhba and the activities at the reservoir.
