Queimada: Hiking the Apple & Wine Trail
Accommodation in Queimada
Hiking the Apple & Wine Trail
The Apple & Wine Trail circular route is a specific starting point for a hiking-focused stay in Queimada. It starts and ends near the information board in the village. This gives you the same named reference point for both the start and return. The trail also includes the Queimada variant, PR 7.1, which runs for 90 metres through the village centre. This length describes the variant, not the entire trail.
On the way back to Queimada, the PR7 Apple & Wine Trail passes the chapel of São Domingos. A fork in the route leads towards Miradouro do Ladário. This provides two different navigational clues: the chapel is a named point on the way back, while the fork indicates the direction to the Miradouro. When working out the route, you can distinguish the waypoint from the directional indication.
Season and landscape
The municipal hiking brochure from August 2023 describes the Apple & Wine Trail as accessible year-round and also recommends different precautions depending on the season: in summer, the warning concerns heat; in winter, it mentions cold, fog and snowfall. Year-round access does not mean that conditions are the same in every season. When planning, you can match the precautions to the season in which you intend to hike.
Queimada lies on a plateau near Monte de São Domingos and in Vale de Naçarães. A plateau is a relatively flat area at higher elevation; Vale means valley. These names describe different geographical contexts: the terrain on which Queimada lies and the valley area to which it belongs. Nearby Monte de São Domingos adds a specific landmark. Location and route describe different things: the plateau, Vale and Monte locate Queimada, while the Apple & Wine Trail provides specific hiking information.
Church and festival date
The Igreja Paroquial de São Pedro is also located in Queimada. As a parish church, it adds a cultural point of reference to the description of the village. Two religious landmarks should be distinguished: the Igreja Paroquial is located in Queimada, while the chapel of São Domingos is mentioned as a point on the way back along the PR7. If you would also like to consider churches and chapels as part of the village and route, these provide two different points of reference.
The Festa em Honra de S. Pedro festival in Queimada is associated with 29 June. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check before travelling whether and when the festival is held in the year concerned. Use the date as a guide and coordinate your plans with the dates for that year.
