Cerdal brings together cultural heritage, local Feiras and the landscape along the Grova stream. Its cultural highlights include a bridge associated with the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, restored windmills, a stone sundial and preserved Roman paving. There are also two Feiras with different schedules and offerings. When planning your trip, you can choose between historic structures, market days and time outdoors.

Bridges, Mills and Preserved Traces

A Roman or medieval bridge in Cerdal forms part of the local heritage of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela. It offers a tangible point of interest for travellers interested in the pilgrimage tradition. The Ponte Romana over the Mira stream lies between Passos and Pedreira; in Passos, a few metres of Roman paving have also been preserved. The bridges have different associations: one is primarily linked to the Camino, while the Ponte Romana is defined by the Mira stream and its location between the two places.

The Moinhos de Bade in Cerdal are restored old windmills. In Bogim, there is a vertical meridional stone sundial with an iron gnomon. Together with the bridges and paving, these sites represent different forms of built heritage: milling technology, a timekeeping instrument, bridges and preserved paving. Those interested in the history of technology will therefore find different points of interest here than at the Camino bridge or the Roman remains.

Feiras and Their Different Dates

The Feira Mensal de Cerdal takes place on the second Sunday of every month at Terreiro de SĂŁo Bento in Passos. If this market day is important to your trip, check the date again before setting off. This lets you plan around the specific day of the week.

At the Feira dos Santos, the offerings include clothing, ceramics, shoes, food stalls, livestock, agricultural produce and agricultural machinery. The selection ranges from everyday goods and refreshments to agricultural products and equipment. Individual offerings may vary from one edition to another.

The annual Feira dos Santos in Cerdal (Valença) takes place at Terreiro de São Bento. “Perícos dos Santos” is its signature product, giving the event a distinct local focus alongside its varied market offerings. When planning your trip, the Feiras therefore differ not only in frequency: the Feira Mensal takes place on a recurring monthly date, while the Feira dos Santos is held annually and includes offerings that vary from one edition to another.

Waterfall and Picnic Park by the Grova Stream

Cascata da Grova lies on the slopes of Cerdal beside the Grova stream. Conditions for visiting may vary, so take this into account when planning your trip. The waterfall offers a focus on the landscape that differs from the architectural and historical themes.

Parque de Merendas de MosteirĂł is also in Cerdal, beside the Grova stream. The site has 17 tables and 23 barbecue grills, as well as a toilet, rubbish bins, a car park and a water supply. These facilities make the picnic park a practical option for spending time outdoors. They may change, so it is advisable to check before visiting.

The waterfall and the picnic park thus represent different aspects of the surroundings: Cascata da Grova is a landscape feature on the slopes, while the picnic facilities are the main feature of Parque de Merendas. This contrast helps place Cerdal in context through its connection to the Grova stream, alongside its bridges, mills and Feiras.
