If you choose Gião as a destination, the Eco-Percurso offers a practical starting point for planning your day. The route network comprises five trails: four are intended for hiking and cycling, while another is exclusively for mountain biking. All five routes start at Poça de Pinelas. This lets you base your plans first on your preferred activity, then compare details of the individual routes.

Hiking and Cycling on the Eco-Percurso

The G4 is 11.5 km long and runs along the boundary areas of the parish of Gião. G5 measures 17.50 km and is a mountain-biking route in the central and southern parts of the parish. This makes G5 six kilometres longer; it is also specifically intended for mountain biking, while G4 runs along the boundary areas. If you are considering both, you can compare them by distance, intended use and route.

Places Along the Routes

The route network also includes natural and cultural points of interest, including the centuries-old cork oak tree of Martinhães. The Eco-Percurso routes pass by the parish church of Santo Estevão. Other stops include the stone cross and the «alminhas» on Rua do Padrão and Rua da Igreja, as well as the public washhouse in Boca. This means you can take local points of interest into account alongside the route details. The natural monument, church, stone cross, «alminhas» and washhouse give the route network a variety of cultural and local connections. A «cruzeiro» is a stone cross; «alminhas» are small religious shrines.

Festivals and Venues

Festivals and religious celebrations in honour of Santo Estevão, the patron saint of the parish, are held annually in Gião. These celebrations offer another possible focus for a stay, alongside the routes and their local points of interest.

The Centro Desportivo Cultural e Recreativo de Gião organises Carnaval de Gião and Festa de S. Martinho. Another point of interest is Parque Verde da Rua da Igreja, a centrally located green space in Gião. It is used for club celebrations, popular festivals and performances; activities there also include food and drinks. The events mentioned therefore differ both in who organises them and where they take place.

For planning purposes, the topics can be considered separately: when choosing a route, the route type, length and course are central; for a festival-focused visit, the specific event date matters. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check its date before booking. When choosing a tour, you can take into account the shared starting point and the different route profiles.
