Lousal
Accommodation in Lousal
For a stay in Lousal, you can combine two different interests: historical landmarks in Ansião and trails along the Rio Nabão. There is also the rural setting around Ponte da Cal, as well as cycling trails and a mountain bike route. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can give your trip a clear focus—from architectural and local history to activities by the river.
Cultural history in Ansião
The Igreja Matriz de Ansião dates from the late 16th century; the year 1593 can be seen on the lintel above its main portal. The period of construction and the inscription represent two distinct points in time: the church is dated to the late 16th century, while a specific year appears on the portal. This distinction offers a focused perspective if you are interested in architectural history.
The Pelourinho de Ansião adds a different historical perspective. It was erected in 1686 to commemorate the donation of the Vila to D. Luís de Menezes, the 3rd Count of Ericeira. While the Igreja Matriz highlights its historical period and the inscription on its portal, the Pelourinho points to a specific event in the town’s history. The two places thus offer different points of interest.
Routes along the Rio Nabão
The Rota Romana and the Rota dos Pinhais both start at Parque Verde do Nabão in Ansião, about 500 metres from the source of the Rio Nabão. Their shared starting point makes it easier to find your way between the two routes. For the Rota Romana, a former IC8 junction at Constantina is an additional location reference. A section of this route follows the Caminho Português para Santiago de Compostela; it then continues to Sarzedela, where you can visit the S. João Chapel. Both routes therefore share a starting point in the park, while the Rota Romana also features a section of the pilgrimage route and the S. João Chapel.
Ponte da Cal and cycling trails
Ponte da Cal lies at the northern entrance to Ansião, on the Rio Nabão, about 600 metres from the river’s source. Its surroundings remain predominantly rural. Compared with the routes’ starting point at Parque Verde—about 500 metres from the same source—the bridge is a separate landmark along the Nabão.
Three kilometres of cycling trails run along the riverbank in Parque Verde do Nabão in Ansião. The P11 Verde – Ansião follows gentle paths along the Rio Nabão and is described as suitable for first-time mountain bike rides. The park’s riverbank trails are listed as three kilometres long; for the P11, the focus is on its gentle terrain and its stated suitability for first-time rides. Trail conditions and signage may change; check both before setting out.
