Wałcz: Water, Routes and History
Accommodation in Wałcz
When planning a trip to Wałcz, several themes stand out: Jezioro Raduń, cycling and hiking trails, and cultural and technical attractions. If you are looking for a hotel in Wałcz, you can plan your stay around whether you are more interested in the lake area, a route, or cultural offerings.
Along Jezioro Raduń and the Lakeside Paths
At 229 ha, Jezioro Raduń is the largest body of water within Wałcz’s administrative boundaries. The Kłosowski Bridge, also known as the Suspension Bridge, connects the two shores. It is for pedestrians only and shortens the route to the forest on the opposite shore at a narrow point in the lake.
The Wałecka Aleja Gwiazd is a lakeside promenade route in eastern Wałcz, along Jezioro Raduń. It starts near the Miejskiego Ośrodka Sportu i Rekreacji. Metal plaques set into the pavement are each dedicated to another athlete. In this way, the route combines the lakeside path with the tributes underfoot.
At the level of COS OPO, Jezioro Raduń has rowing and canoe sprint courses with the associated infrastructure; competitions are held there. At the Miejskim Ośrodku Sportu i Rekreacji by the lake, kayaks, boats, and pedal boats are available for hire. Check availability for your dates before your visit. For canoe trips, there are routes on the Dobrzyca, Piława, and Rurzyca rivers in the vicinity of Wałcz. COS OPO Bukowina is located at the Wałcz exit towards Gorzów Wielkopolski, in a beech-covered woodland area.
Cycling and Hiking Trails by Length and Route
The trails differ both in length and in their routes. The black Wałcz–Kłębowiec trail is 7 km long and passes through Pluskota and Rudnica. The green-marked Wałcz–Czapla–Wiesiółka trail is 12 km long. The stated distances and places provide different points of reference for comparing these two routes.
The Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia is a 40 km cycling route. It is marked with name signs and runs via Kołatnik, Pluskota, Nakielno, Strączno, Chwiram, and Wałcz, before returning to Kołatnik. This describes another type of route: a longer loop that takes in several places.
Among the hiking trails, a 6 km route connects Wałcz, Pluskota, and Kołatnik. Another route is 13.7 km long and starts at Wałcz PKS bus station. It passes allotment gardens, a bridge over the Dobrzyca, and Jezioro Łubianka, ending at the ZHP centre and Ostrowiec PKS bus station. A 4 km hiking trail runs between Ostrowiec and the Leśniczówka Wałcz forester’s lodge. The different starting and ending points help distinguish the routes by their respective paths.
Culture, History and Technology
The Szlak wałeckich zabytków runs along the shore of Jezioro Raduń and then leads to Aleja Gwiazd; it ends with a visit to the Grupa Warowna Cegielnia open-air museum. The Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia also leads to this open-air museum in Wałcz and includes a sightseeing break there. The Pomeranian Wall fortification line runs through Wałcz along the shore of Jezioro Raduń.
The Muzeum Ziemi Wałeckiej is located in central Wałcz, at the intersection of Pocztowa and Orla streets, at the base of the Orla peninsula on Jezioro Zamkowe. This provides a different geographical point of reference for cultural planning than the routes along Jezioro Raduń.
At the “Metalowe Inspiracje” Local Science Centre, visitors can use a flight simulator and driving simulators for cars, forklifts, and excavators. The centre has an educational playground for younger visitors. It also offers practical classes on physics and chemistry, IT, renewable energy, and LEGO construction, as well as a simulator lab with elements of robotics, mechanics, and technology.
