Czarnkowie: Trails, Landscape and Half-Timbered Buildings
Accommodation in Czarnkowie
The red Szlak solny hiking trail and the “Polodowcowa Kraina Drawy i Dębnicy” nature trail run through Czarnkowie; the latter is also suitable for cycling. The “Szwajcaria połczyńska” cycling route passes through open fields and meadows among the scattered buildings of the village. This brings together a hiking trail, a cycle-friendly nature trail and a cycling route through open countryside.
Trails and Routes
The nature trail can be divided into a loop through Czarnkowie and a section heading west from Czarnkowie. The loop leads to a rest area with shelters and educational features. The westbound section crosses the Dolina Pięciu Jezior and leads to the Las Kluczewski complex. This gives you two distinct points of interest: the rest area and its educational features on the loop, and the named landscape and destination points along the western section.
The distinction is clear when choosing by activity: Szlak solny is the red hiking trail, while “Szwajcaria połczyńska” is the cycling route. The nature trail is also suitable for cycling. You can therefore compare the route explicitly designated as a cycling route with the cycle-friendly nature trail; the nature trail also offers the loop with its rest area and the westbound section as additional points of reference.
Landscape and Points of Reference
The landscape features have different focal points. “Szwajcaria połczyńska” passes through open fields and meadows among Czarnkowie’s scattered buildings. By contrast, the Dolina Pięciu Jezior and the Las Kluczewski complex are the named points along the westbound section of the nature trail. This makes it possible to distinguish the open surroundings of the settlement from the landscape and destination points along this particular section.
Wola Góra and Rest Areas
Wola Góra adds a named high point to the routes: the mountain is 219.2 m above sea level and is one of the highest elevations in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. At its summit stands a fire lookout tower belonging to Nadleśnictwo Połczyn-Zdrój. The tower is not open to visitors; check current access arrangements before visiting. At the foot of the tower is a rest area with tables and shelters.
The rest areas described can also be distinguished by their listed features: at the foot of the tower on Wola Góra, there are tables and shelters; the rest area on the nature trail loop has shelters and educational features. This distinction helps you tell the rest points apart, along with the route sections they are associated with.
Half-Timbered Buildings in the Village
Some buildings in Czarnkowie are built using half-timbered construction. Half-timbering is a building method in which a load-bearing wooden frame forms the structure. The area around these half-timbered buildings is sometimes called “kraina szachulcowych chat.” The nickname refers to a characteristic feature of the village’s architecture and adds a cultural aspect to the route and landscape highlights.
