Oświno can be explored through two themes: Lake Woświn, with its varied landscape of lake and forest, and the village’s historic features—the church, former manor park, and cemeteries. The lake-and-forest landscape also makes Oświno appealing for relaxing stays and tourist trips. When planning your trip, consider whether time by the water or an interest in architectural and park history should take priority.

Lake Woświn and the beach

A small, prepared beach is located on the shore of Lake Woświn on the Oświno side. The gently sloping shelf makes swimming possible there. This makes the beach a specific option for travelers who want to combine time at the lake with swimming. Water conditions and swimming conditions may change, so check local conditions before your visit if swimming is part of your plans.

Church and former manor park

The church in Oświno was built around 1880 on a rectangular plan, using fieldstone and brick. A floor plan describes the shape of a structure as seen from above.

The park of the former manor in Oświno was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century. Preserved old trees of Abies concolor, Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropurpureum’, Platanus x acerifolia, Taxus baccata, and Quercus robur grow there. These five surviving old tree species offer a botanical perspective on the historic manor park.

The features can also be placed in chronological order: the park was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century, the second cemetery in the first half of that century, and the church around 1880. The church is therefore the most recent of these three dated local features.

Cemeteries and planning your visit

The second cemetery in Oświno was established in the first half of the 19th century. It lies on the southern edge of the village and covers about 0.3 ha. The churchyard forms a square of about 0.2 ha, with the church at its center. The second cemetery is on the southern edge of the village, whereas the churchyard is laid out as a square around the church.

The areas differ in scale: the park of the former manor originally covered 4 ha, the second cemetery about 0.3 ha, and the churchyard about 0.2 ha. The 4 ha refers to the original total area of the former manor park; the areas of both cemeteries are approximate.

For the municipal cemetery in Oświno, a regulation published in July 2023 provides for visitor access around the clock from January 1 to December 31. If you are planning a visit, check the current operating rules again.
