Two things may shape your stay in Przystan: the 39.5 km Szlak Kanału Mazurskiego and the kąpielisko Przystań swimming area. The route passes through Przystań; the swimming area is part of the Mamry Lake complex.

Cycling route: surface, sections and obstacles

The Szlak Kanału Mazurskiego runs mostly along unpaved roads and paths. Particularly scenic sections follow an old railway line, a path alongside the Masurian Canal and a road by Lake Rydzówka. These varied sections give the route its distinctive character: in addition to the canal, the old railway line and the lake are among its described features.

Cyclists should also note that there are several obstacles along the Szlak. In some places, you will need to carry or push your bicycle. If you are planning a ride without such interruptions, take this into account when choosing your route. Obstacles and trail conditions may change; check the conditions before setting off.

Another route and places of interest

Near Przystan, a hiking and cycling route runs alongside the Masurian Canal from Lake Mamry to the state border. You can also consider this route if you are looking for a hiking trail as well as a cycling route. It is distinct from the 39.5 km Szlak Kanału Mazurskiego: this route is described by its course along the canal and its endpoints, while the Szlak is also defined by its surface and obstacles.

Places of interest along the cycling route include Lake Przystań and a viewpoint. Together with the scenic sections, these provide various points to consider when choosing your route: you can take the canal route, the old railway line, Lake Rydzówka or the attractions mentioned into account.

Swimming area in the Mamry Lake complex

The kąpielisko Przystań swimming area is part of the Mamry Lake complex. Its beach is sandy and grassy, and sailboats moor at a pier. The two local highlights are therefore quite distinct: the Szlak Kanału Mazurskiego focuses on the cycling route, its surface and obstacles, while the beach and pier define the swimming area.

Culture in the wider Węgorzewski destination

In the wider Węgorzewski destination, a small open-air museum is located on the grounds of the Muzeum Kultury Ludowej in Węgorzewo. It showcases traditional Masurian architecture, including wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. The focus here is therefore regional architecture and its historic homes.

Also in Węgorzewo is Cmentarz nad jez. Święcajty, a cemetery for soldiers who fell in the First World War. It contains the graves of 344 German and 234 Russian soldiers. The two places offer different cultural and historical perspectives: the open-air museum represents Masurian architecture, while the cemetery commemorates soldiers who fell in the First World War. These places are part of the wider Węgorzewski destination and should be distinguished from the routes and swimming area described in Przystan.
