Kątno on Szeląg Wielki

Kątno lies on the eastern shore of Szeląg Wielki. In Kątno, the beach, a pedestrian and cycle path, and a cycling route that runs through the village provide different points of reference. They help you plan your stay around its actual focus: the beach and bathing area relate to time by the shore, while the paths provide information about access and the cycling route.

Beach and bathing area

The municipal beach opened as a publicly accessible leisure beach with a bathing area for residents and tourists. The beach has a leisure pavilion with four wooden tables and benches; there are also eight additional benches, three waste bins and a fire pit. The seating is therefore divided between the pavilion and the additional benches. The facilities also include two bathing piers with combined dimensions of 24.50 × 2.40 metres. An unpaved car park has space for about ten cars. The dimensions of 24.50 × 2.40 metres apply to both piers together; the car park capacity of about ten cars is an estimate. If you plan to visit the bathing area, pier or car park, please check current access arrangements.

Paths and cycling route

A pedestrian and cycle path about 1,560 metres long connects national road DK16 with Kątno. The municipality announced its completion on 4 April 2024. This is separate from the Olsztyn–Stare Jabłonki cycling route, which runs through Kątno. The connecting path can be identified by its approximate length and the two endpoints; for the cycling route, its passage through the village is the key reference. This distinction helps you plan your journey and cycling trip separately. Before setting out, check the current route conditions and signage.

Leisure pier and kayaking trip

The leisure pier also has a specific location: it was renovated in 2023 in Kątno’s recreation complex; the project name places it on the Elbląg Canal route. If the pier is important to your visit, check access arrangements in advance.

A travel account of an outing in June 2019 describes a 12.5-kilometre kayaking trip from the Ostróda lock to the municipal beach in Kątno. It gives the trip’s starting point, destination and distance. At 12.5 kilometres, the kayaking trip is longer than the pedestrian and cycle path, which is about 1,560 metres long. The two figures relate to different activities: a kayaking trip and a path for pedestrian and cycle traffic. The dates also refer to different events: 2023 is the year the pier was renovated, while June 2019 dates the outing described. If you plan to go kayaking, check what options are currently available.
