Discover Jaroty
Accommodation in Jaroty
Jaroty can be considered from different perspectives when planning a stay: cycling, outdoor routes, a skatepark and local history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Jaroty, the specific places you want to visit can help structure your plans. For a longer bike ride, the route’s length and course are relevant; for time outdoors without a set itinerary, there is also a park with several facilities nearby. Historic sites connect a preserved school building, a chapel and memorials with the history of the area.
Cycle routes and time outdoors
The yellow-marked Olsztyn–Zgniłocha cycle route is 24 kilometres long. It starts on the southern edge of Olsztyn, near the Church of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, in Jaroty. Almost the entire route passes through the forest complexes of the Puszcza-Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest. Its length, starting point and course through the forest give the ride a clearly defined character.
The green-marked “Do źródeł Łyny” hiking trail also runs nearby. It is just under 50 kilometres long and heads towards the former village of Jaroty. The two routes differ both in length and direction: the yellow cycle route starts near the church in Jaroty, while the green hiking trail leads towards the former village.
The park between Nagórki and Jaroty is located near the destination. It covers almost four hectares and has illuminated paths for walking and cycling, terraces, barbecue areas and a playground. Unlike the two longer routes, the park brings together paths and several places to spend time in one area. This means a ride with a fixed distance and a park with various facilities offer different ways to spend time outdoors.
Jaroty Skatepark
Jaroty Skatepark is another specific destination for a sports-focused stay. Its facilities include a mini ramp, bank ramps, grind boxes and a quarter pipe. The facility was built on the site of a disused asphalt court beside a school. It is a neighbourhood project funded by Olsztyn’s civic budget. The ramps and boxes describe the facilities, while the former asphalt court and civic budget offer insight into how the skatepark came about.
Local history and memorial sites
The Polish School in Jaroty was founded at the initiative of Józef Malewski and Jakub Barczewski. It operated from 1930 to 1939 in the Barczewscy family home. The preserved red-brick building of the former school stands opposite the 19th-century Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. A memorial plaque commemorating the school’s activities was placed on the school building in 1957. The building now houses a library and a therapeutic day centre. If you would like to visit, check access in advance.
The history of the chapel is also connected with the present-day Church of Our Lady, Mother of the Church: the Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was incorporated into the church. Another memorial plaque in Jaroty commemorates the arrest of Wojciech Kętrzyński in 1863, after he had supplied weapons to participants in the January Uprising. Together, the former school, the chapel and the memorial plaques offer several different points of connection for anyone interested in the history of Jaroty.
