Three different route descriptions are relevant when planning a trip involving Guzowy Piec: the Black Cycling Route, the fourth stage of the Way of St. James, and the red route. All three include Guzowy Piec along the way, but their endpoints and scales differ. You can first decide whether you are considering a cycling route, a single stage, or a longer route that returns to Olsztyn.

Routes with Different Itineraries

The Black Cycling Route

The Black Cycling Route is 15.6 km long and runs from Biesal via Tomaryny, Śródka, Guzowy Piec, Salminek, and Jadaminy, then back to Biesal. For orientation, the entire sequence matters: Guzowy Piec is a stop between Śródka and Salminek, while Biesal is both the starting point and the destination. The distance refers to the entire route described. If you are considering this route, you can think of it as a continuous cycling route that returns to its starting point—not as a tour that begins or ends in Guzowy Piec.

The Fourth Stage of the Way of St. James

The fourth stage of the Way of St. James runs from Gietrzwałd via Łajsy, Pęglity, and Śródka, through Guzowy Piec, to Parwółki. The sequence of places puts Guzowy Piec between Śródka and Parwółki; the stage itself runs from Gietrzwałd to Parwółki. Here, too, the town is not an endpoint of the route described. If you plan to follow this stage, check the route markers on site before relying on the current itinerary.

The Red Route

The 84.3 km red route runs from Olsztyn via Gronity, Naterki, Sząbruk, Unieszewo, Makruty, Guzowy Młyn, Guzowy Piec, Parwółki, Stare Jabłonki, Kątno, Plichta, Dąg, Wynki, Worliny, Woryty, Gietrzwałd, Łajsy, Unieszewo Kolonia, Kudypy, Łupstych, and Gutkowo, then back to Olsztyn. The sequence of places shows Guzowy Piec as part of a much longer overall route; both the start and the finish are in Olsztyn. At 84.3 km, the route is considerably longer than the 15.6 km Black Cycling Route.

Putting the Routes in Context for Trip Planning

The fact that all three routes mention Guzowy Piec is not the only thing to consider when choosing. Look at the stated type of route and its endpoints: the Black Cycling Route is a cycling route that returns to Biesal, the Way of St. James is a stage from Gietrzwałd to Parwółki, and the red route is a longer route that returns to Olsztyn. This lets you assess the routes based on your planned starting point and destination, and interpret the overall details in the context of each itinerary.

The “Osada Warmińska” conference centre was established in Guzowy Piec, on the edge of the forest, in a former school building.
