Marzecice is characterized by its agricultural landscape, historic village buildings, and religious memorials. If you are considering the village as a travel destination, these features help convey its rural and cultural-historical character. Marzecice lies on Voivodeship Road 538; Nowe Miasto Lubawskie is about 3 kilometers away.

Rural Character and Landscape

Arable land covers 462.71 hectares, almost 80 percent of the village’s total area. Agriculture therefore shapes most of Marzecice, not just a few areas on its outskirts. At the same time, the natural environment is considered relatively unpolluted. Both are part of the village’s character: extensive agricultural land use and a natural environment described as comparatively unpolluted.

Historic Buildings and Their Construction Dates

Buildings of cultural and historical value include a brick-built elementary school dating from around 1900. Residential building No. 17 is a brick structure with wooden gables dating from approximately 1876 to 1900; No. 80 is a brick structure from around 1920. At No. 5, residential and agricultural functions are combined in a brick building dating from approximately 1901 to 1910. It also includes a brick-built smithy from the first quarter of the 20th century. No. 79 consists of a brick residential building and a brick-built agricultural building dating from around 1900.

The examples differ both in function and construction: alongside the school are residential houses and buildings that combine residential and agricultural uses. The dates range from the second half of the 19th century to around 1920. Together, they offer an impression of the varied character of the village’s historic buildings.

Religious Memorials

At the eastern edge of the village stands the restored roadside chapel of Christ the King, which was rebuilt after the Second World War. At the western edge is a statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, dating from 1956. Another story is associated with the roadside chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: Kunegunda and Anastazy Płoscy built it in their garden in 1951, in gratitude for their return from a concentration camp.

The three memorials reflect different forms of religious remembrance. The personal reason for building the roadside chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has also been passed down; the roadside chapel of Christ the King and the statue of Mary are associated with the postwar period. In this way, the village’s religious history adds its own temporal and personal perspective to the earlier examples of residential and agricultural architecture.

Harvest Festival and Local Tradition

The municipal harvest festival, Dożynki Gminne, celebrates the end of the harvest and its yield. The event held on August 30, 2025, took place in Marzecice. The festival is recurring and firmly established in the cultural calendar of the Kurzętnik municipality. Its features include harvest crowns, regional dishes, communal celebrations, and competitions in which rural women’s associations vie for the most beautiful harvest crown and the most attractive stall.

The Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich Marzecice, a rural women’s association, has a tradition spanning more than 40 years. Every year, the association takes part in harvest crown competitions at district and municipal harvest celebrations. The harvest crown thus features both in the festival program and in the association’s recurring activities. This provides a tangible link between the village’s agricultural character and its communal harvest festival traditions.
