Siemiany sits on a high lakeside embankment above Lake Jeziorak, which is described as Poland’s longest lake. Several distinct features may be relevant when choosing where to stay: an observation tower stands on the lakeshore, a hiking trail runs from Iława to Siemiany, cycling routes branch off in different directions, and a sailing route passes through the town. The annual “Nad Jeziorakiem” festival adds a cultural event to these activities. When looking for a hotel in Siemiany, it helps to consider the main focus of your trip.

Scenery on Lake Jeziorak

A 14-metre-high observation tower stands on the shore of Lake Jeziorak in Siemiany. From there, you can enjoy a wide view over the lake, whose varied shoreline features several islands. Siemiany itself sits on a high embankment above the water, while the tower is right on the shore. This means the town’s elevated position and the waterside viewpoint are two distinct vantage points for looking out over Lake Jeziorak. If the landscape is a priority when choosing your destination, the tower is a distinctive feature of the town.

Hiking and cycling

The blue-marked hiking trail runs from Iława via Sarnówek, Widłągi Bay and Rożek to Siemiany. It is 26 kilometres long and takes about 5.5 hours to walk. For most of its length, the trail passes through the Iława Lake District Landscape Park. On this hike, Siemiany is the destination; the points along the way indicate the route from Iława.

The “Wokół Jezioraka” circular cycling route is 86.5 kilometres long, with Siemiany at kilometre 20.8. From Siemiany, the route runs through forests towards Jerzwałd. Several signposted local cycling routes also branch off in different directions. The kilometre marker shows where Siemiany lies on the circular route, while the local trails lead in different directions.

The routes give Siemiany different roles: the hiking trail leads to the town, while the sailing route and circular cycling route include it as part of a longer journey. For your planning, this means the difference between a hike that ends in Siemiany and a route on which the town is one stop along the way.

Sailing and camping

The sailing route on Lakes Jeziorak and Płaskie runs from Iława via Siemiany to Jerzwałd. Siemiany has a sailing eco-marina with berths for several dozen yachts. The area around the observation tower is well developed for sailing and camping tourism. This means that the connection with Lake Jeziorak is not limited to views from the shore: it also includes a named sailing route and a marina.

Festival and travel planning

The annual “Nad Jeziorakiem” festival brings together music, cabaret and art in a picturesque amphitheatre on Lake Jeziorak. The exact dates vary. If the festival is the reason for your trip, plan around the dates of the relevant edition.
