When planning a stay in Sędziszowice, it is worth distinguishing the village’s local history from destinations in other places in the Bejsce municipality. The open-air village museum and wine tastings are in Morawiany; other cultural and landscape attractions are associated with Bejsce.

Sędziszowice and its history

The first recorded mention of Sędziszowice dates to 1348. The name probably comes from the knight Sędzisz of the Odrowąż family. A prehistoric burial mound north of the village is listed as an archaeological monument. Together, these references give the village a history that stretches from an early mention to archaeological evidence.

Sędziszowice lies on the border between the Świętokrzyskie and Małopolskie Voivodeships. Administratively, it belongs to the Bejsce gmina in Kazimierza County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland. Its settlement pattern is also part of the local cultural landscape: Sędziszowice is classified as a historical settlement form known as półwieś, one of the traditional linear village patterns in the municipality.

Manors, a watermill and cultural heritage

A manor with eight peasant łans, an inn and a mill is recorded for the 15th century. In 1580, Sędziszowice was part of Mikołaj Złotnicki’s estate. From the 17th century, the village was owned by the Rościszewski family. In 1874, a folwark covering 628 mórg was established in Sędziszowice. The historical records thus span property ownership in the 15th and 16th centuries through to a later manor farm. The Polish land-area terms łan and mórg are retained in their historically recorded forms.

Another chapter in the village’s history is the Sędziszowice watermill: a permanent 19th-century watermill associated with Kościelna and classified as industrial heritage. The burial mound and the mill represent different historical themes—archaeological traces of settlement on the one hand, and technical heritage on the other.

Cultural and natural destinations in the Bejsce municipality

Morawiany also offers tastings of Morawiany wine. The wine is part of the Ponidzie and Powiśle culinary trail. If you are planning a tasting, check availability in advance.

Bejsce is considered a place with a thousand-year tradition, including historical references to a settlement, a chapel and a church. St. Nicholas Church in Bejsce was founded in 1340 and later expanded with Renaissance and Baroque chapels. The Nidzica Valley within the Bejsce municipality has high natural and landscape value. A tourist trail runs from Bejsce through Rogów to Opatowiec; check local conditions before travelling.

Choose the right focus for your trip

The different local attractions can help you plan a trip around your interests: Sędziszowice combines local history with the archaeological monument and the watermill; Morawiany focuses on the open-air museum and wine; and Bejsce adds a church, the Nidzica Valley and a tourist trail to the options. When choosing a hotel, you can therefore decide whether to focus on Sędziszowice itself or include destinations in several places in the Bejsce gmina.
