Cisiec between Velo Soła and local history
Accommodation in Cisiec
When looking for a hotel for a stay in Cisiec, choose your focus based on your travel plans: a cycling route, a walk or local history. These themes have different points of interest in the village.
The Soła and the landscape
The Soła flows through Cisiec and divides the village into Mały Cisiec and Duży Cisiec. Mały and Duży Cisiec thus refer to two parts of the village whose division is directly connected to the river. Several peaks are part of the surrounding landscape; one of them is Palenica, at 687 metres above sea level. The two parts of the village divided by the Soła and Palenica’s elevation offer two different perspectives on Cisiec: the village’s internal division and the surrounding landscape.
Cycling route and walking trail
Velo Soła is an approximately 40-kilometre cycling route from Rajcza to Żywiec, passing through Cisiec at kilometre 13. The approximate length refers to the entire route, not just the section in the village; kilometre 13 locates Cisiec along the route. The entire Velo Soła runs on paved paths. The length, kilometre marker and surface answer different questions: How long is the entire route, where is Cisiec along it, and what kind of surface does the route follow? If you are planning a bike ride, this distinction clarifies the difference between the route’s regional scale and its section within the village.
The Trakt Cesarski also runs through Cisiec. A four-kilometre walking trail has been created along one section of it. The four kilometres refer to this trail along the section, not to the entire Trakt Cesarski. This makes for a direct comparison with Velo Soła: the latter is an approximately 40-kilometre cycling route between Rajcza and Żywiec, while here it is a walking trail along one section. The details therefore distinguish both the activity and the scale of the route. If you are choosing between cycling and walking, the shorter walking trail is the focus on the Trakt Cesarski.
Church and local history
The Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Cisiec is known as the “Church of the One-Day Miracle.” It was built on 5 and 6 November 1972, despite the prohibitions imposed by the party authorities of the time; it was finally legalised in 1979. Its construction and subsequent legalisation are two separate events in its history. The Szlak Papieski has a stop at the church. This brings together, at a named location, the church’s extraordinary construction history and a stop on the Szlak Papieski. For a stay focused on local history, this is a distinctive cultural highlight.
Museum in Mały Cisiec
The private Jan Talik “Ocalenie” Museum is located in Mały Cisiec. Its unusual character makes it a worthwhile destination and adds another cultural point of interest to the church history. As the museum is private, it is advisable to check current visiting arrangements in advance.
