Świętochłowice offers travellers a range of themes to explore: natural landscapes, recreation in the park and Silesian history. If you are looking for a hotel in Świętochłowice, considering which of these aspects interests you most can be a useful starting point for your stay. Dolina Lipinki draws attention to a natural area with ponds and floodplains; at Skałka Park, several outdoor activities take centre stage. The Muzeum Powstań Śląskich and the headgear complex of the former “Polska” mine add historical highlights.

Dolina Lipinki and Ajska

Dolina Lipinki, popularly known as “Ajska”, lies in the Lipiny district in north-west Świętochłowice. The landscape is shaped by several ponds and interesting floodplains along a stream. The popular name Ajska refers to the same natural area as Dolina Lipinki. The ponds and areas along the stream give this natural area a distinctive connection to water; travellers interested in landscapes as well as the city’s history will find a special focus here.

Known as Ajska, the area is also a refuge and breeding ground for reptiles and amphibians. Examples of reptiles include the grass snake, the common lizard and the sand lizard; amphibians include the green toad, the European tree frog and the moor frog. Dolina Lipinki can therefore be viewed from two perspectives: as a landscape with ponds and floodplains, and as a habitat where both groups of animals are found.

Recreation at Skałka Park

At Skałka Park, you can cycle on the paths and go Nordic walking along the park’s avenues. The two activities take place on different routes: cycling is offered on the paths, while Nordic walking is for the avenues. There is also a playground and an outdoor gym. As facilities may change, check their current status before your visit. In the central part of the park, there is a kayak launch with a pergola on the upper level, from which you can watch the sunsets. The park thus offers different ways to enjoy your time, from exercise and play to a spot for watching the sunset.

Silesian history and mining heritage

The Muzeum Powstań Śląskich in Świętochłowice opened in 2014. Covering more than 1,000 m², its exhibits, interior design and sound transport visitors to the era of the insurgents and convey the history of the Silesian Uprisings. The combination of a historical subject, spatial design and sound gives the museum a clear focus for travellers interested in learning about the uprisings.

Another historical landmark is the complex of the two headframes of shafts I and II at the former “Polska” mine. It is listed in the register of monuments under number A/110/04. The designation as a complex refers to both headframes together. This distinguishes two different historical themes: the museum focuses on the history of the Silesian Uprisings, while the listed complex represents the mining heritage of the former mine.
