In Racibórz (Ratibor), historic churches and sites, cultural events, and seasonal kayaking on the Oder River offer a range of options for a stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Racibórz, you can start by considering whether your trip will focus more on culture, time outdoors, or an activity on the water.

The Oder, parks and nature

Kayak trips on the Oder River run during the season, with the launch point at the city beach in Zamkowy Park. Check locally whether they are currently operating before making this a firm part of your plans.

Zamkowy Park is part of a castle complex featuring a castle from the 13th or 14th century, a chapel dating to 1290, a gatehouse from the 13th and 14th centuries, and remnants of defensive walls on the western side. The castle, chapel, gatehouse and wall remnants connect the park to a complex historical site.

At the Bramy Morawskiej Arboretum, you can walk in the woods and visit the Zaczarowany Ogród. The garden is open year-round, daily from 7 a.m. until dusk. The Łężczok nature reserve is also located a few kilometres from the city centre. It was established in 1957 to protect a species-rich riparian forest and former Cistercian fishponds. The Zagroda żubrów covers more than ten hectares and was created specifically for European bison.

Churches, museums and history

The Church of St James (św. Jakuba) was built between 1246 and 1258 as the monastery church of the local Dominican convent. The Church of the Holy Spirit (św. Ducha) was consecrated in 1334 as the church of the Dominican nuns; a nuns’ gallery has been preserved there. Their different dates and architectural histories make the two churches distinct places to explore Racibórz’s religious past.

The Church of the Holy Spirit is the main exhibition building of the Muzeum w Raciborzu. The museum uses two historic buildings: the former Dominican convent at ul. Gimnazjalna and a granary at ul. Chopina. Check the current visitor entrance in advance before your museum visit.

The Zamek Piastowski includes the Chapel of St Thomas Becket (pw. Tomasza Becketa), known as the “Pearl of Silesian Gothic.” In the middle of the market square stands a statue of the Virgin Mary on a column, erected between 1725 and 1727. Together with the churches and castle complex, these places offer different ways to explore the city’s history.

Cultural events throughout the year

Regular cultural events in Racibórz include Dni Raciborza in June, Festiwal Górnej Odry, Pływadła, Raciborski Festiwal Średniowieczny and the Konwent Miłośników Fantastyki i RPG Goblikon. The “Wiatraki” travel festival takes place in autumn. Check the specific dates and schedules before planning your trip around an event.

You can tailor your choice of activities to your travel interests: for a seasonal activity on the water, timing matters, while the churches, museum and historic sites provide a cultural focus. If you’d rather spend time outdoors, the arboretum and nearby Łężczok offer further options for your stay.
