If you are looking for a hotel in Pszczyna, the city’s cultural and landscape themes can shape the focus of your trip planning. The history of the castle, the Old Town and the park offer different ways to plan your days around your own interests.

Castle, Old Town and the history of the press

The castle museum in Pszczyna is housed in a former ducal castle. About 80 percent of the original furnishings from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved. The history of the castle is thus given a specific timeframe through the furnishings of the residence. If you are interested in historic residences, you can connect this theme with the urban area around the Old Town.

Pszczyna’s Old Town has preserved its traditional medieval street layout. At its center is a spacious market square. Piastowska Street is one of several streets leading to the square and is also the city’s main shopping street. In the wider Pszczyna travel destination, it is also the most important pedestrian zone. This makes it possible to distinguish the roles of the streets and central square when finding your way around the city.

The Muzeum Prasy Śląskiej offers a different historical theme. Its exhibition presents the history of the press in Silesia from its beginnings through 1939. The museum is located on the signposted Szlak Zabytków Techniki. This route includes more than thirty stops and is the only one of its kind in Poland to belong to the European Route of Industrial Heritage network. The castle museum and the press museum therefore focus on different subjects: the furnishings of a former ducal castle on the one hand, and the development of the Silesian press on the other.

Parkland and wildlife observation

Park Zamkowy covers 48 hectares along the Pszczynka River. At the Pokazowa Zagroda Żubrów, visitors can see European bison, mouflons, red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and several bird species. Alongside the urban and museum themes, parkland and wildlife observation are therefore also distinct interests to consider when planning a trip.

The wider context is important when considering the areas: in the wider Pszczyna travel destination, the Historic Park covers 156 hectares. It comprises the Castle Park, Dworcowy Park and Dziką Promenada. The 48 hectares of Park Zamkowy and the 156 hectares of the Historic Park therefore refer to different areas. A well-maintained golf course occupies a large part of Dziką Promenada; the Pokazowa Zagroda Żubrów is also located there. The ten-hectare site includes enclosures and paths from which visitors can also observe fallow deer, red deer, roe deer and pheasants.

More cultural themes in the wider Pszczyna travel destination

The cultural offering in the wider Pszczyna travel destination also includes music, the history of printing and wooden architecture. Izba Telemanna displays historic musical instruments, including an 18th-century positive organ. The Silesian Press Museum collects historic printing presses and printing equipment. The Zagroda Wsi Pszczyńskiej open-air museum is included in the Silesian Wooden Architecture Route as part of the Pszczyna Loop.

The complex of the ducal stables offers another venue for exhibitions: the castle museum took it over in June 2013, and exhibitions on various themes are regularly held there. The Baroque concerts “Wieczory u Telemanna” in the Mirror Room of the castle museum form a distinct musical tradition and have been held there since 1979. These themes complement the history of the castle and the press with instruments, architecture and concert music.
