Myszków: Cycling Routes, Nature and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Myszków
Cycling, hiking and cultural heritage give a trip to Myszków several specific focal points. If you are looking for a hotel in Myszków, you can first decide whether to focus mainly on routes connected with the town, trails through Myszkowski County, or cultural and natural attractions in various places. The routes vary in length and theme; when it comes to sights, it is also worth looking beyond the town.
Cycling routes by length and theme
The 83 km Smy-101s cycling route has the Polish name “na rowerze szlakiem zamków,” which refers to its castle theme. It runs, among other places, through Myszków, Rzędkowice, Podlesice, Hucisko, Bobolice, Mirów, Żarki and Koziegłowy, ending at the market square in Siewierz. At 70 km, the Smy-102n is shorter. Its name, “na rowerze szlakiem hutnictwa,” refers to the ironworking industry; the route runs from Myszków PKP via Myszków Światowit, Gruchla, Mrzygłód, Mrzygłódka, Poręba, Krawce, Będusz, Pustkowie Lgockie, Pińczyce, Huta Szklana, Koziegłowy and Gęzyn to Poraj PKP.
The 49 km Smy-103c is named after natural monuments and runs, among other places, through Żarki Letnisko, Myszków Nowa Wieś and Myszków PKP. Another option is the green-marked Jurajski Cycling Route named after Zygmunt Krasiński: it connects Częstochowa with Myszków and runs via Złoty Potok and Żarki to the center of Myszków. The red-marked “Orlich Gniazd” Jurajski Cycling Route connects Kraków with Częstochowa and passes through Zdów, Bobolice, Mirów, Niegowa, Moczydło, Przewodziszowice, Czatachowa, Ostrężnik, Suliszowice and Zrębiec in Myszkowski County.
The length and signage of the Smy-101s may change as updates are made. The route and markings of the red-marked Jurajski Cycling Route may also be adjusted. Checking the current route helps you assess your planned ride before setting out.
Hiking and nature in Myszkowski County
The green-marked Cz-1003 hiking trail starts at the market square in Myszków-Mrzygłód. It runs via Kręciwilk, Gruchla, Światowit, Góra Włodowska and Rzędkowice to Góra Zborów. For a broader picture: around 110 km of hiking trails and more than 200 km of cycling trails pass through Myszkowski County. These totals refer to the county, not just the town of Myszków; they may change as routes are updated.
Part of the county lies within the “Orlich Gniazd” Landscape Park. In the Warta Valley near Nowa Wieś Żarecka, an almost natural biocoenotic system has been preserved, with numerous rare and protected plant species. The region’s caves also have their own distinctive character: Brzozowa Cave near Trzebniów is one of the longest caves in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Wierna Cave is in the municipality of Niegowa and is among the largest caves in the Upland.
Culture and other regional attractions
The Shrine of the Assumption of Mary stands in Myszków–Mrzygłód. It was built between 1653 and 1662 and is listed in the registers of immovable and archaeological monuments. Pilgrims visit the shrine from Częstochowa, Zagłębie and several religious communities. The site is therefore shaped both by its architectural history and its religious significance.
Leśniów is another cultural destination in the wider travel area. The shrine there houses a wooden Madonna and Child from the 14th century, about 70 cm tall and classified as one of the so-called Beautiful Madonnas. The statue is in the Church of the Visitation, whose main structure was built in the mid-16th century. The Leśniowska Noah’s Ark at the Pauline monastery in Żarki-Leśniów is home to, among other animals, kangaroos, ostriches, peacocks and meerkats; the animals kept there may change over time.
The Poraj Reservoir in the municipality of Poraj is a reservoir created by damming the Warta River. It offers favorable conditions for sailing and fishing. Together with the cycling routes, hiking trail and cultural sites, it provides a range of different themes to consider when planning a trip to Myszków and Myszkowski County.
