Zamostne: Village History, Landscape and Kayaking
Accommodation in Zamostne
Zamostne combines historic features, open countryside and a kayaking stretch on the Reda. When planning your trip, you can focus on different things: several buildings and local landmarks stand along Wejherowska Street, while the paddling route calls for its own decision about timing and effort. Whether you are more interested in village history, scenery or activity on the water, you can weigh up these specific differences.
Historic Traces in Zamostne
An evangelical cemetery is located on Wejherowska Street. A manor house, part of a manor complex, also stands on the street. The village’s history also includes former uses of individual buildings: a butcher’s shop was once located at number 34; the building is now a residential home. The village’s history also includes a dairy building and a chimney on plot 128 on Wejherowska Street. A post office once stood on plot 129; this building is also now a residential home.
Zamostne also has two archaeological hillforts, each with its own terrain features. Together with the manor house and the buildings along Wejherowska Street, they offer a view of local history that includes different architectural and landscape features.
Landscape Between Zamostne and Kniewo
From Wejherowska Street, the view opens onto the surrounding countryside and the village of Kniewo. A lime-tree avenue runs between Zamostne and Kniewo. These offer two different landscape experiences: a view from a particular spot and an avenue connecting two places. If you want to consider not only individual buildings but also the character of the landscape when planning your trip, these features offer a distinct perspective on Zamostne.
The Kayaking Route from Zamostne to Reda
The kayaking stretch from Zamostne to Reda is 22 kilometres long and is considered moderately difficult and strenuous. This does not contradict the fact that paddling from the starting point in Zamostne is easy and pleasant: the start and the assessment of the entire stretch are two different perspectives. The river alternates between narrower and wider sections. Rapids, bridges and footbridges mean that you will need to carry the kayak. Your decision should therefore take into account not only the pleasant start, but also the length of the route and the sections where the kayak must be carried. River conditions may vary, so check them before setting off.
Cultural Attractions in the Wider Destination of Neustadt
In the wider destination of Neustadt, Wejherowo offers its own cultural highlights. The Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko-Pomorskiej was founded in 1968. It is a treasure trove of regional artefacts and a centre of Kashubian culture, particularly the Kashubian language. Models of the town and Kalwaria Wejherowska are on display in the historic town hall. Książnica prof. Gerarda Labudy has a permanent exhibition on the history of the Kashubians.
The history of Kalwaria Wejherowska is also associated with specific dates: it was the fourth Calvary complex established during the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. After Bishop Mikołaj Albert Gniewosz of Aleksandrów approved its construction on 9 June 1649, work began on its chapels.
The Szlak Nut Kaszubskich explores another cultural theme in Wejherowo. Fifteen pedestals featuring fragments of a traditional counting rhyme are spread across different parts of the town and form a route that passes the main attractions. The individual installations may change.
The Muzeum Piaśnickie dedicates its permanent exhibition, spread over two floors, to commemorating the victims of the Pomeranian crimes, using the crime of Piaśnica as an example. Relics of the crime of Piaśnica are located in the basement.
