Łężyce Between Nature and History
Accommodation in Łężyce
Łężyce combines natural surroundings, a horse-riding activity with a clear requirement, and a glimpse into the past. These different highlights can help you choose what to focus on based on your interests.
Landscape and Nature in Łężyce
Łężyce lies within the buffer zone of Trójmiejski Landscape Park. In July 2022, a large old white stork nest stood on a pole disconnected from the power grid on the eastern edge of Łężyce, near Obwodowa Street. Before making a special trip to see it, check whether the nest is still there.
Trail Rides for Experienced Riders
Ośrodek Jeździecki „Pomerania“ offers riders who already have riding experience supervised trail rides on one of the forest paths. When choosing, the main consideration is whether your existing riding experience fits your travel plans. The riding stable borders Trójmiejski Landscape Park, where several trails are specifically designated for horses. The rides are offered on a forest path, while the designated horse trails are located in the adjacent park. This distinction helps you understand the activity and the trails’ location precisely.
The Manor House and Its History
The manor house in Łężyce dates from the 19th century and was formerly the estate of the Pobłocki and Roszczynialski families. Its date and history as a former estate give the house a distinctive historical context. Alongside its natural setting and horse-riding activity, Łężyce also offers a connection to local history, distinct from its landscape-related attractions.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Neustadt
The wider destination of Neustadt includes several cultural and historical points of interest in Wejherowo. Muzeum Piśmiennictwa i Muzyki Kaszubsko-Pomorskiej was founded in 1968. It is a treasure trove of regional artefacts and a centre of Kashubian culture, particularly the Kashubian language. Książnica prof. Gerarda Labudy presents a permanent exhibition on the history of the Kashubians. This lets you distinguish between cultural interests according to whether you are more interested in regional artefacts and language or in Kashubian history.
In Wejherowo, Kalwaria Wejherowska was the fourth Calvary complex to be established during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. After Bishop Mikołaj Albert Gniewosz of Aleksandrów approved its construction on 9 June 1649, work began on its chapels. Szlak Nut Kaszubskich is a tourist attraction in Wejherowo: fifteen pedestals bearing fragments of a traditional counting rhyme are spread across different parts of the city and form a route passing the main sights. Individual installations may change, so check the route before your visit.
Models of the city and Kalwaria Wejherowska are on display in Wejherowo’s historic town hall. Another focus, centred on remembrance, is Muzeum Piaśnickie. Its permanent exhibition spans two floors and commemorates the victims of the Pomeranian crimes through the example of the Piaśnica crime; relics of the Piaśnica crime are located in the basement.
