Sopot is a seaside resort on the Baltic Sea, where sandy beaches are just one part of the travel experience. You can also explore cultural and historical themes, as well as equestrian sports, trails, and activities on the water. You can shape your days around a range of interests: explore the resort through its spa history, the collections at the Muzeum Sopotu, or its landscape and outdoor activities.

Baltic Sea Beaches and Activities on the Water

Sopot has sandy beaches, and a cycling path along the sea offers views of the Baltic Sea and the beach. If you would rather focus on outdoor activities than museum collections, you can make the cycling path part of your plans. You can also go stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) in Sopot all year round. That gives you a choice of different ways to be active on the water: a ride along the cycling path or SUP paddling.

Spa History and Collections

Sopot’s spa tradition dates back to the construction of its first bathing establishment: the so-called Łazienki, built in 1823. The Muzeum Sopotu preserves collections that document the history and development of the city, the seaside resort, and the region. The historical story thus stretches from the beginning of the bathing establishment to the development of the town and its wider surroundings.

One of the museum’s specific collections is the Claaszen Collection. It includes furniture, decorative arts, Delftware, and English prints. Alongside the historical themes relating to the city and seaside resort, it features a range of objects from the decorative arts and graphic arts. If you would like to include culture and local history in your trip, these two aspects give you an idea of the breadth of the museum collections mentioned here.

Cultural Venues and Open-Air History

The Opera Leśna is a forest amphitheatre with a history spanning more than a century. Goyki 3 Art Inkubator has a different focus: this cultural institution is housed in a restored historic villa dating from 1894. In Sopot, you can therefore visit both a long-established amphitheatre and a cultural institution in a historic villa.

Grodzisko w Sopocie is an open-air museum with reconstructed huts, a gate, and part of a palisade. These reconstructed features shape the site’s presentation outdoors. Literacki Sopot, held annually since 2012, has its own place in the cultural calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific event dates in advance.

Equestrian Sports and Scenic Trails

Equestrian competitions in show jumping, dressage, and eventing take place at Hipodrom Sopot. Riding schools offer lessons for children and adults, from learning the basics to improving existing skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. Seasonal horse races are also held. If you would like to include these races in your plans, it is worth checking the dates before your trip.

On the Leśny Szlak Kuracyjny, you can also choose between two routes. The longer one loops around the Opera Leśna and includes two viewpoints. The longer option is therefore clearly defined by its loop and viewpoints. Łysa Góra has a drag lift almost 300 metres long. The hill lies on the edge of Trójmiejski Park Krajobrazowy and, at 110 metres above sea level, is Sopot’s highest elevation.
