Somonino: Cycling routes, the Radunia and local history
Accommodation in Somonino
Somonino brings together cycling routes, the Radunia and cultural and historical points of interest. You can start by considering whether you would rather spend your time cycling, exploring the river area or discovering local cultural connections.
Cycling routes and hiking
The “Ścieżka rowerowa Somonino – Ostrzyce” cycling route is paved and 7 km long. It begins at “Dworzec PKP w Somoninie” railway station, passes through Goręczyno on its way to Ostrzyce and runs alongside the Radunia. Its length, surface and named places give the route a distinct character: it leads from Somonino through Goręczyno to Ostrzyce, with views of the river along the way.
The “SZLAK ROWEROWY KAMIENNE KRĘGI” cycling and hiking trail is a different proposition: it is a 32.2 km circular route that passes through Somonino. After crossing the Radunia, it continues into the town centre. This lets you compare a 7 km route ending in Ostrzyce with a longer loop that also leads into the centre. If you would rather consider a hiking route than another cycling trip, the “Szlak Wzgórz Szymbarskich” tourist trail runs along the southeastern edge of Somonino.
The Radunia in the local landscape
The Radunia is more than just part of the route description. In the centre of Somonino, the river picks up speed as it approaches the first of three gorges along its course, the Somoniński Gorge. This connects the river in the town with a specific, named landscape feature. There is also a canoe landing stage with a service pavilion and sanitary facilities on the Radunia in Somonino. You can therefore encounter the river both as part of the cycling route and as a destination in its own right for water-based activities.
Church and railway station with local history
The church “Kościół pw. Przemienienia Pańskiego i NMP Królowej Polski” was built in 1983. Following recent modernisation, its postmodern form has come to reflect traditional sacred architecture more closely. Its year of construction and architectural style offer a specific cultural and historical point of interest, distinct from Somonino’s cycling and river themes.
The “Dworzec PKP w Somoninie” railway station also has its own local connections. A 2021 publication describes a waiting room with Kashubian design elements. The station grounds also include a ground-level fountain, a bicycle shelter and a car park. Fragments of the series “Podróż za jeden uśmiech” were filmed on the station grounds in 1971. The interior design, surroundings and film history thus offer different ways to explore the town’s history.
Getting there and choosing your stay
A notice about the resumption of passenger services refers to the modernised railway line No. 214 between Somonino and Kartuzy: regular services resumed on 14 June after more than 20 years. From Kartuzy, onward travel towards Gdańsk is possible. Check current timetables before travelling.
When looking for a hotel in Somonino, you can start by deciding what you want your stay to focus on: the cycling routes, the Radunia, local history or rail services. Then use the specific details in each hotel listing to choose accommodation that meets your own requirements.
