Mirachowo can be explored through three themes: historic buildings in the village, nature destinations in the surrounding area, and additional cultural and route options in the wider destination of Karthaus. This can help you decide what matters most for your stay before looking for a hotel in Mirachowo.

Architectural history and places of remembrance in Mirachowo

The Starościński Manor dates from the 18th century and was the seat of the district administrator of Kartuzy before the Second World War. Another historic landmark is Leśniczówka Mirachowo: its present-day building was constructed in 1870 at the initiative of the Prussian administration. The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Matki Boskiej Nieustającej Pomocy) was established through a foundation by Countess Szczaniawska in 1730. Together, these three places offer different historical reference points—from the 18th-century manor and the chapel’s foundation to the 19th-century forestry building.

The reconstructed “Ptasia Wola” partisan bunker complex is also among the historic sites in the surrounding area. It lies along the Pętla Mirachowska and is associated with TOW Gryf Pomorski. Local partisans hid there during the Second World War. This is a different kind of historical reference from the architecture in the village: the focus here is on the bunker’s use during wartime.

Lake, rock and forest in the surrounding area

Diabelski Kamień (Devil’s Stone) lies on the shore of Lake Kamienne, not far from Mirachowo, in the municipality of Kartuzy. Its circumference is about 17 metres. The Lubygość Nature Reserve offers a different perspective on the landscape: it covers just under 70 hectares and includes Lake Lubygość and the forests on the steep slopes of a ribbon lake valley.

A 5.8-kilometre circular forest walk runs around Lake Lubygość. The “Lubygość” tourist station is the endpoint of the walk described. Check local conditions before setting out on this route. The circular walk and the nature reserve offer different ways to experience the area: you can focus on a specific route or take in the protected landscape as a whole, with its lake, forest and valley slopes.

Culture and routes in the wider destination of Karthaus

In Kartuzy, within the wider destination of Karthaus, stands a Gothic collegiate church dating from the 14th century. It is considered one of Pomerania’s most valuable historic buildings, is unique on a national scale and bears witness to the work of the Carthusian Order. Its most distinctive feature is the Baroque roof, shaped like a coffin lid: with the words “memento mori”—“remember that you must die”—it symbolizes the monastic way of life of the Carthusian monks.

The Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum in Kartuzy presents literature, material culture, language, and regional history and traditions. Its exhibits are displayed in eight galleries in the main building. The named sections include Bazyli’s forge, the exhibition “Kaszubska współczesność z korzeni wyrasta” and temporary exhibitions. The Tourist Information Centre in Kartuzy is near the collegiate church, at Brama Kaszubskiego Pierścienia, ul. Klasztorna 1. Before visiting, check which services are available and what the current opening hours are.

Paths and waterfront areas also add to the range of options in Kartuzy. Promenada Asesora is a walking and cycling path along Jezioro Karczemne, connected to Ławka Asesora, which serves as a city viewpoint. The promenade is a destination for outings by locals and tourists. Another promenade was created by Jezioro Klasztorne Małe in 2020.

Choosing routes by distance and duration

For a walk with a specified distance, a route description dated June 27, 2016, lists Nordic Walking Route No. 1: an 8.4-kilometre route that takes about two hours, from Ławka Asesora via Kosy and Bilowo to Kartuzy. Check the route information before setting out. The green Nordic walking route around Kartuzy also starts and ends at Ławka Asesora, but is described differently: it runs entirely through the forest, along wide, paved paths and hilly terrain, and passes close to small forest lakes. For cyclists, the Kartuska Nature Bike Route is another named option; it is just under 26 kilometres long and marked in green.

Those wishing to combine nature destinations with a short educational trail can visit the Arboretum Leśników Kartuskich on the northwestern edge of Kartuzy. It has a botanical collection across 4.03 hectares of woodland managed for forestry for over 100 years. The collection includes 23 species and varieties of woody plants and more than 150 species of herbaceous plants and shrubs. A nature trail about one kilometre long runs through the arboretum; the route description dates from 2016, so check the route before setting out.

The rail connection between Kartuzy and Trójmiasto may also be useful when planning your journey. One description states that trains run hourly in summer; since this frequency is given for a particular season, check the timetable for your travel dates. If you are looking for hotels in Mirachowo, the different highlights can help you decide where to go: historic buildings in the village, the circular walk around Lake Lubygość, or additional cultural and route options in Kartuzy.
