Kamienica Szlachecka can be understood through archaeological discoveries, historic sites, and a documented local history. A planned expansion of the cycle path is also in the works. This gives your travel decision a focus on history and cultural heritage.

Archaeological Traces and Local History

Kamienica Szlachecka was first mentioned in written sources in the 15th century. The archaeological discoveries date back much further: an ancient cemetery from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD was found in the village. A total of 85 graves from the Roman Imperial period were discovered at this cemetery. Of these, 44 were cremation burials—including urn and pit graves—and 41 were inhumation burials. The two groups are close in number, with a difference of three graves. They also represent different burial practices: in cremation burials, the deceased were cremated; in inhumation burials, they were interred uncremated. The distinction between urn and pit graves adds two specific burial forms to the first group. This means the discovery can be dated, while the figures also bring the different burial practices at this cemetery into focus. The century reference specifies the timeframe; “Roman Imperial period” names the historical era to which the graves are assigned.

Hillfort Rampart, Chapel, and Cemetery

The hillfort rampart is among the archaeological monuments of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It was registered on November 11, 1947, under number C-5; its previous registration number was 11/A. The Chapel of Matki Boskiej is also among the monuments of the voivodeship. Another historic site is the post-epidemic cemetery southwest of Kamienica Szlachecka. It is also among the monuments of the voivodeship and is marked by a metal cross.

The place name offers another way into the area’s history: Kamienica Szlachecka derives from the Kashubian word “kamińca,” meaning “stony place.” Unlike the dating of the burial ground, this origin points to the Kashubian language. Together, the name, archaeological discoveries, and historic sites offer different clues for understanding the destination’s cultural significance.

Planned Cycle Path Expansion

An expansion of the cycle path is planned along a section of county road 1914G in Kamienica Szlachecka. The planned section is to start at the intersection with the unpaved road ul. Zamkowa, at the existing bituminous-surfaced footpath and cycle path. It is to end at a concrete-paved access road in the built-up area near ul. Zielone Wzgórze, where it is planned to connect to an existing footpath. This is a proposal, not a confirmed completed project. If you plan to travel along this section, check the current project status and the actual route in advance.

If you are looking for a stay with a focus on cultural history, these features of the area can help inform your travel decision.
