Charzykowy on Lake Charzykowskie
Accommodation in Charzykowy
Charzykowy lies on the shore of Lake Charzykowskie, about 6 km from Chojnice. The town combines the lake with sailing, marked hiking and cycling trails, and a beach area with sports facilities. Lake Charzykowskie is one of the larger lakes in the Pojezierze Pomorskie: it covers more than 1,360 hectares and is 30 metres deep at its deepest point. These figures give an idea of the lake’s size. You can plan your trip around different priorities: activities on the water, trails with different endpoints, and a cycling route connected with Kashubian culture.
Lake, beach, and activities
Charzykowy Bathing Area is located on the promenade in Charzykowy, on Lake Charzykowskie; its shoreline is 99 metres long. The lake is considered clean from a water-quality perspective and particularly calm. Boats with combustion engines are prohibited on Lake Charzykowskie. Activities associated with the lake and its surroundings include sailing, windsurfing, fishing, horse riding, Nordic walking, cycling, and long walks. Motorboating is also associated with the lake and its surroundings; however, boats with combustion engines are prohibited on the lake itself. This distinguishes activities on the water from those in the surrounding area without attributing them all to the lake.
Hiking and cycling routes
The green Struga Siedmiu Jezior hiking trail section begins in Charzykowy and ends in Chojnice. The full green trail passes through Bory Tucholskie National Park near Stara Piła. For navigation, distinguish the section from the full trail: Charzykowy–Chojnice refers to the green section, while the full green trail passes through the national park near Stara Piła.
Another option is the red Kaszubska Marszruta route, which begins at the promenade in Charzykowy and ends in Czersk. As a signposted cycling route, it is of low difficulty and runs along dedicated cycle paths with gravel, asphalt, or concrete surfaces. Cyclists can discover Kashubian art and culture along the route. The green hiking trail section and the red cycling route therefore differ both in mode of travel and in their stated endpoints. Trail and surface conditions may change seasonally; check them before your trip.
Sailing and maritime history
The Chojnice Sailing Club, founded by Otton Weiland in 1922, is considered the first sailing club in independent Poland and is connected with Charzykowy’s maritime heritage. The club runs a sailing school that is open year-round and offers courses. At Lake Charzykowskie, the ChKŻ marina has more than 100 berths for yachts and motorboats. Together, the sailing school and marina represent two distinct aspects of the area’s maritime focus: sailing instruction and boat berths.
Sports and getting there
Next to Charzykowy’s main beach are a sand football pitch, a volleyball court, and a multi-tiered spectator stand. Thus, the beach facilities described include not only the shore but also sports areas and places for spectators. Charzykowy is connected to Chojnice by bus. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel date in advance.
